20 goals in 2016 to date for a career total of 135.

After a purple patch he's been quiet and horribly out of form the past 3 weeks coinciding with Geelong's struggles of late.

Is he our barometer? Will this milestone spark him back into the form that saw him All Australian lock a month ago?

I'm expecting him to bounce back in a big way on the quick surface of Ethiad and hopefully the rest of the side follow his lead and grab the win.

Well done Mots.

You know what I reckon? I reckon that Fat Motlop (the bloke we saw at the start of the year) punished himself on the track to get himself back to match fitness. What we are seeing now might be the machine breaking down a bit as it readjusts once again.

He'll come good.
Or it's just the natural ebb and flow of a player who is best when winning most of his possessions away from the contest.

Some days he'll roll a 6, other days he'll roll a 1. A bit like permanent forwards, he relies on the rest of the team to have a large impact on the game.

We like to see patterns and call them something, but I'm not sure if his form or fitness has changed at all over the season.

I sit two rows from the fence at Simonds so kept a close eye on Mots on Saturday. He tried all game, was involved in a lot of scores, and often ran to good position but wasn't used or the ball wasn't kicked to his advantage. I daresay his GPS results would have shown he ran just as much, and just as hard, as he was a few weeks ago when he was in electric form.

Congrats on the milestone Mots :thumbsu:

Well raised point you make.... I still think the variable is intensity. When he's flying, its there and then, IMO, when its gone its really gone. Not to say hes not fit, or he's out of form, but the effect whatever that variable becomes is considerable.

Go Catters

His effort against Carlton was putrid.

He's a confidence player and does well when the team's doing well as well as being an electric forward.

He's a permanent forward, you can't afford to have him in the midfield rotations because he's not the kind of guy that can turn things around in a game like Selwood or Guthrie can.

His first 100 has been quite a roller-coaster, hopefully for him, his next 100 are more solid.

There's every chance you're right SJ, and what fpm84 saw bears this out. Happy to stand corrected.

Congrats Steve-o on cracking the ton. Now we get your children:D

I was about to post similar Turbocat.

I'm surprised at the lack of love for Mots. He's popular when he's dominating, not so when he's out of form.

Some fickle Motlop supporters perhaps? ;)

Nothing to do with fickle; it's to do with there being no Mr In-between. He either plays scintillating football or looks absolute crap.

But he'll come good this Saturday.

With the Tomahawk out make that a personal record of 6

Surprise NM by playing Motlop's paddock up forward I reckon :D.

Good on him hitting 100 games. Mots has had his fair share of critics, but when he's up and about he is one of the best.

That's not as silly as it sounds.

I'm baffled that they actually use Hawkins' paddock. Win the ball and kick it over the top to a 'slow moving' Hawkins makes sense.

Someone mentioned a little earlier that this could play into our hands... I'd rather a Murdoch, Motlop or Stanley running onto the over the top ball than the current system that uses Hawkins in the role.

I was also at the ground last saturday. He did seem to run and try all game. Somehow he just wasn't in it.

Well done on reaching 100 games, Mots.

Hopefully that's our forward line against North, with Menz and Kersten, Lang/Gregson.

Congrats to Motlop - a 'typical' Geelong footballer, in the best possible sense.

Can still remember one of Mots' games in the VFL (might've been the same day as 186) when he laid about 4-5 tackles in one passage of play while pressuring defenders as they were trying to clear their defensive 50. Crazy defensive pressure.

When he's on, he's awesome to watch. Hopefully he'll be on this Saturday night.
