I have a massive benign tumour on my left sciatic nerve. If it is bumped in even the slightest way it causes pain all the way down the back of my leg. I keep putting off going to get it surgically removed. The worst time is when I was on a bucks party on a house boat and I was woken up in the morning when my mate decided to punch me in the ass. he didn't know about it and wondered why I woke up screaming.
