imo public statements like that don't mean anything, they are just protecting the image of the club and making sure they are in a strong position.

if he came out and said "we don't support him", then if they try to sell him they have no leverage. any public "statement" is tactical more than truthful.

It was part of his weekly column with the Mirror so it wasn't an official club statement, but as a member of the board, for legal reasons he's not going to publicly contradict the clubs formal position on a matter like this.

You may well be right elhadjihenry that this might be a tactical ploy by the club, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter. Either way our formal position is always going to be that we intend to keep Suarez and his price will be set with that in mind.

As for Dalglish's stance on the Evra issue? Poor judgement in hindsight maybe but completely irrelevant to this I would've thought.
