Sydney midfielder Jarrad Sundqvist is set to miss the rest of the season with a ruptured anterior cruciate in his right knee.

The 21 year-old injured his knee towards the end of the Swans’ training session on Friday afternoon at the SCG. He was set to play in a Swans reserve practice match on Sunday.

Originally from Glenelg, Sundqvist was the Swans’ fourth pick at the 2000 National AFL Draft when he was claimed with pick No.54.

He has played nine games for the Swans after making his AFL debut against Melbourne in round 21, 2002. He played eight matches in 2003.

Sundqvist is the second young Sydney midfielder to be sidelined for the remainder of the 2004 season with Nick Malceski also sidelined after rupturing his anterior cruciate before the start of the home and away season.

Malceski, who is entering his second year with the club, is yet to make his AFL debut after being drafted from the Eastern Ranges with the Swans’ fifth selection at No.64 overall in the 2002 National AFL Draft.
