I would definitely give Scott Camporeale a call, he made an average Adelaide midfield look very good for a very long time. He is all over our problems and has been pointing out the faults in Kens game for years. I would make him midfield coach. Maybe try to get a recognised forwards coach. And a up and coming defense coach. There is no way we can go into 2026 with any of our current coaching staff. They all have to go, maybe Lobbe can stay as we have seen improvements in our ruckman

Likes of Craig Jennings at GWS, would love to bring Montgomery back, Cameron Bruce at Lions, Jarryd Roughead at Hawks (aware he's currently a list manager), Dew at Lions and Troy Chaplin at Dees. Camporeale is also something that we should sing out to.

So there is the coaches, the board, the fitness department, the club administration, the media team and the list.

Won’t go into too much on the admin side but fair to say we will need a board and club staff that are able to keep fans engaged and coming, sell merch and sponsors and engage the media to keep them on side.

Fitness needs a thorough examination. Are we as fit and strong as we could be/need to be? Are we mentally tough and resilient enough? Are we managing injuries and ensuring player longevity? Burgo seems to have the crows and dees, previously, fit and large. And relatively injury free. He was always good with the mental side of things too.

Coaches.

Dew has helped the lions and I think his best role is as that senior assistant. Would be handy for Josh to have someone like him.

Jordan Roughead has Collingwood’s defence humming - could he be enticed to come as a senior assistant?

Blake Carracella has coached at Richmond, Collingwood and Geelong. He would be a very good get.

Nigel Lappin has helped turn Geelong into a development factory - would be a great get.

Reality is we will have to pay a lot more to get someone like this to come. It is the nature of Adelaide vs Melbourne and the many options available there.
Some very good names there but you’re forgetting we run as a cheap Charlie club.
If we had an admin that was serious about winning your dreams might come true.
With Koch and co you’re more likely to get the Flinders Pk water boy as an assistant.

James Rahilly?

Had the Crows forward line absolutely firing in 2023.

It’s bullshit the small town thinking of assistants won’t want to be here.
Sounds like koch

Seven current head coaches spent part of their playing or coaching career in Adelaide.

Only Yze and Beveridge haven’t ever been out of Melbourne out of 18 coaches.

If you present opportunity they will come.

If you are a dead man walking of course you can’t attract anyone.

Specifically moved back to Geelong so wife and kids could be around extended family.
Won’t move out of Vic again while kids are still younger side.

Just figured I’d chip in to give some context 👍🏼

Since the 2021 prelim the club has lost experienced assistant coaches and replaced them with either no one or complete novices.

Now I’m not saying these novices are shit and need to be thrown in the bin, they’re all currently dancing to Hinkley’s tune so I think most of them deserve a chance under Carr to see how they go but we really need to add a couple more to what seems like a really skinny coaching panel.

An Alan Richardson or Phil Walsh type right hand man that Hinkley got the benefit of in his first 2 years would be ideal.

They don’t necessarily need to be from
Interstate but we need to find someone with experience and highly credentialed. You’d just have to offer them more money than what they are getting elsewhere to entice them, call it the senior assistant role. We should have more money now that Kenny isn’t fleecing the club.

Maybe a South Aussie like Hayden Skipworth or someone we’ve had links to in the past like Jaymie Graham. Stuart Dew would be a good get too.

And then add one or two more locally. This could be guys from the SANFL like a Marty Mattner, Jacob Surjan or Paul Thomas. Or even guys who were previously in AFL coaching systems that might want to return like Josh Francou or Scott Camporeale.

Josh Carr deserves to be as well resourced as Ken was in his early days.

Yes! There was no soft cap back then, like there is today, not that we spent many millions more than the other clubs.

We have to be prepared to pay to get great people to Alberton, and work with sponsors so part of wages falls outside the cap.

If we want a world best athletics coach to improve players running style / cadence etc, work with a sponsor to bring out someone like John Smith from California and his HSI program, and he does work with Athletics Australia so that his payment can be hidden from Port's books, but he does a decent amount of work with Port.

Same with a grappling / wrestling coach. There are plenty of good ones in Oz, but if you get the best Olympic wrestling coach in USA from the college system, get him to work with the Australian Wrestling Federation, but he does a lot of work with Port and a sponsor pays for that.

Farken break the soft cap and pay the tax.

I wrote about WCE doing this last week, to fast track development, given they have $10m cash in the bank and $62m in short term deposits and equity investments, they have their $60m facility, so they don't need all that cash. Spend it and fast track the kids. We can't spend as much as them, but stuff it spend the $$$ as well as do the tax dodge deals with sponsors.

Yeah, I think Hodge and Pyke would have to be braindead to leave their current jobs to be assistants to Josh Carr.

HH seems to be guaranteed to be here next year, according to Chewy

Goldsack is fine.

Williams is fine.

I can be convinced of Chad Cornes, but not as a main line coach.

Lobbe and Sutcliffe can leave.

I wouldn't say Hartlett is a lock to be there next year but it certainly doesn't appear as though they're looking to upgrade at that spot either.

Strong likelihood of Chad not being there next year, certainly not in a line role.

Goldsack most likely to remain as defence coach.

Probably not a popular opinion but I’d ask Montgomery and Schofield to come back.

I wouldn't be going near Montgomery with a 10 foot pole. Good to have for a few years at most, until he wears out his welcome with everyone in the building.

Hopefuly Josh Carr has some good relationships with some of the staff mentioned in this thread

Going into 2026, we can't have a coaching panel that still looks like this:

Chad Cornes - Forwards
Tyson Goldsack - Defensive
Hamish Hartlett - SANFL
Matthew Lobbe - Ruck/Development
Jason Williams - Development
Cameron Sutcliffe - Development

This would be close to the worst coaching panel in the league and an indictment on Koch, who in 2012, said what this Club needed was a fully-funded football program.

So who can we go after to support Josh?

I've seen Hodge's name mentioned - would be great to have someone with a hard edge that was actually successful on the field to look after the midfield.

It might be a good idea to have an experienced Senior Assistant, similar to Richardson in 2013 and Walsh in 2014.

I would go after Don Pyke, personally but others may not agree.

Who you got?

I’ll support Josh until he gives me evidence enough not to be up to the challenge he’ll be facing.

Footy furnace, carrs biggest challenge is to develop a sustainable gamestyle that isnt overly reliant on emotion based footy. Basically our current style leads to big blowouts when where down or undermanned. They suggested also its no longer about win loss for this years, its going to be more important to bring in a new plan under carr . Ironically both Melb and West Coast won today and employed our former game plan with the high forward press and repeated entries.

I'd imagine Josh having worked with the guys already here would have of an idea of who he is moving on, but if Hinkley pisses off soon and he has a fair chunk of this year left he'll have more of an opportunity to see how he feels about them when they are directly under him.

There's many things he could identify & get to work on if this ridiculous farewell lap was nipped in the bud.

What has Goldsack done to merit this confidence? And who the hell is even Williams?

And to think people used to complain about Bassett.

It works. It’s just not good enough.

Our former game plan (still predominantly is, but anyway), did work in the minor round.

It lets you down in pressure games and against good opponents eg, finals.

If we can't get some decent talent here permanently can we at least bring in someone that knows about a winning culture at least in a consulting role to convince these players that, while yes, football might not be everything in life it would still be pretty bloody good to live up to your talents and use them for some success while you've got the chance? Basically, an anti Daddy and Boak "people first" ambassador?

Carr would've suited that but I'm unconvinced with how long he's been in the love in do it for daddy system

This really depends whether the board is more interested in paying off the last of our debt before the next phase of redevelopment or giving us the best chance of success.

I have a feeling the race to pay off the debt before the redevelopment starts is getting tight so they probably can't do both.

Fwiw if we don't pay off the debt, we can't get rid of Koch

Yeah I think people underestimate just how big the Hinkley effect has been for the last 5 years. As soon as it became clear he was never going to bring success to Port and would throw his assistants under the boss nobody in their right mind would want to come here. The challenge is to find a way to prove to Australia that will change under Carr.

Felt like he was good at managing the defensive lines but absolutely horrendous as a midfield coach. The worst I've ever seen and that's saying something. Do you think if he'd stayed in defence we'd all see him differently and he might still be at the club? Why did he move in to mid?
