Spot on!! Not renewing Bassett’s contract was a huge mistake. I’ll stick my head out and say that he was a defensive genius. When he exited Port he left ex-colleagues there who had a lot lessor talent in coaching than him.

We have got close on the back of a handful of players carrying the side.
We’ve had too many deficiencies down back and up forward to be a serious challenger.
Basically if an opposition team breaks even with our midfield they’re home and hose.

Disagree, we've been within a kick of a GF a few times. If we had major deficiencies in defense and forward, then we wouldn't have been that close.

I do agree around the midfield break even, however luckily it hasn't happened often in the past (aside from this season)

If you look at some of the finals we lost, you'll see that there are some that we absolutely got outplayed and had no chance - but others that we threw it away by not taking our chances. Even the ones we did win, we did that with horrible goal conversion.

Key finals losses that were clearly due to missing opportunities:

2017 vs WCE - 10.16 vs 12.6 (WCE Shuey duckgame)
2014 vs Hawks - 13.16 vs 15.7


But then you look deeper into matches where momentum matters - and you see games like against Sydney in last years PF

At this point, our heads drop and we continued to miss chances to bring us back, whilst they continued to kick accurately.


These are all just examples of times where Hinkley's gameplan has coached a winnable game, yet our players skills and more importantly, goal conversion has let us down. Yes, that is also Hinkley's responsibility - so it's not defending him, but it is saying that the gameplan is not what has cost us over time (yes of course, there are games where it has cost us)

Josh will get no sympathy from me if he cant correct this train wreck.

He knows what he is up against, hell he is part of the problem to some degree.

He will get my support as I cheer him on to swim instead of sink, that is about it from me.

This is the worst coaching panel in the league, it is simply a Hinkley boys club. All of them need to be removed prior to 2026.

Do we know this as a fact? Hinkley would have had no prior relationship with Chad Cornes and Goldsack - and Sutcliff was here as a player for very long.

It feels more like a management directive to me, Ken in earlier days seemed happy with all the other assistants we had.

Virtually all of our assistant coaches are here due to being from Adelaide or having a wife wanting to live here.

It's pathetic to limit our net to meeting one of those two criteria.

I don't disagree - my question is more whether this is a "Hinkley" boys club, or whether this is what he's been given. People love to blame Ken for anything and everything, and it's often misguided.

Felt like he was good at managing the defensive lines but absolutely horrendous as a midfield coach. The worst I've ever seen and that's saying something. Do you think if he'd stayed in defence we'd all see him differently and he might still be at the club? Why did he move in to mid?

Replaced Schofield. We brought up Cornes to take over the defence. While also not replacing Michael Voss. You know it was the best at promoting from within to save money.

Hentschel has been there a long time. Our skill level is poor so he can go too.
I would approach a successful SANFL coach for the maggies such as Darren Reeves.
I'd like Jimmy Bartel as Head of Football. Bye bye Davies!!
Schofield or Dew for midfield / senior assistant.

Daren Reeves ain’t leaving a well sourced and structured SANFL gig for a sideways move. If we are serious about acquiring Rocks EI, IP and Elite Sport IQ bring him in as the Senior assistant. He will drive standards and bring a proven elite mindset, I am sure Carry and Rocks philosophies would see a very good program running underneath.

Don't think Lade would be too keen to return to Port much less SA. Didn't he leave after two years because of personal reasons? Dew seems to have settled in QLD despite Port's interest in acquiring him at the end of last year as ab assistant. Schofield did leave Port despite being contracted for a more senior role at West Coast and if West Coast aren't keen to renew his contract, he could return to Port but I wouldn't hold my hopes for him at this stage.

As for the Corn, he did have a winning mentality as coach of the maggies. I'll give him that much but I feel he has overstayed his welcome at Port and should pursue new opportunities elsewhere. Both him and the club.

Also as others have mentioned, I would have Chad take on the Magpies again, need to breed a winning culture within the ranks from top to bottom. Allow Chad to chase SANFL glories and keep him at arms length from any AFL insight/knowledge to stop the leaks.

I wonder how many would return under different leadership? I think Koch hangs around for another 3 years, see the delivery of the Bowls Club facilities and the debt written off completely. See the sacking of Richardson and be done.
