Swans List - Moving Forward

Would Courtney Johns possibly be an option for a trade with Essendon?

Sydney are lacking young tall forwards and Johns will most likely be on the way out for the Bombers.

Jesse White, Heath Grundy when fit and recruiting of Henry Playfair. We seem to be in the process of developing our own right now.

I also think Essendon are not going to delist him yet and if he was up for grab you would be wanting at least a high second round pick...

No problem.
Quick lad with a big presence about him. Can take a good mark.
Mobility can be an issue namely when he needs to turn. Not the most agile footballer going around. Decision making isnt always great. Has to learn to lead to the right places.
Still young at the age of 23.
Is he more of a fringe player at Essendon? Maybe he could be a Teddy-esque prospect for us.

I think Essendon will be looking to trade him this season and if not possible they will delist him. High second round pick is very optimistic mate. Id be happy with a late third round for Courtney Johns.

He is a fringe player and has played the last couple of games due to our large number of injuries. This will most likely be his final season at Essendon. Hopefully we can organise a fair trade for him. May be a good option for Sydney with their lack of young tall forwards and it could be the fresh start Johns needs.

To Retire:

Ben Mathews (I think he'll go. One thing's for sure though, he wont be moved on, the club respects what he's done too much for that.)

Jared Crouch (Body's been too battered for him to continue. I think he knows that too.)

Peter Everitt (Has business interests elsewhere and shares the same sentiments as Crouch.)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Delisted:

Luke Brennan (Absolutely gone. Too slow, no skills. The boy tries hard but just doesn't cut it as disposal efficiency is such a key to the modern defender.)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Last Year in 09:

Michael O'Loughlin (He'll want to get to 300, I think he knows too that he's vital to the structure of the side. Can't see him retiring and definetly won't be shunted off.)

Leo Barry (Getting too slow for his run-and-carry we've become accustom to over the last few years. He's got another season of good games in him but I dont think he'll want to push his luck any further.)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Trade Bait:

Jude Bolton (Has done nothing since 2004, but other clubs dont know what we do...)

Nick Davis (Ditto Jude Bolton, we know he's lazy and inconsistant but the rest of the competion - bar Collingwood - think he's still a matchwinner in almost every game he plays.)

Heath Grundy (Could be important down the track but hasn't shown me much, he's had too many chances and I would've prefered us to retain Vogels. Grundy's done nothing since his debut.)

Luke Ablett (Career has been in a downhill slide since he chipped across the backline to Cousins in the 2005 granny. Other posters may say I pick on him but he adds little to our game and skirts around packs, he's only averaging 2 contested possesions a game this year. He does what Dempster did and should be moved on like Sean was. Cats would want him.)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Others:

Nic Fosdike (Give him another year, so many people underrate his importance to our midfield. Averages 17 touches a game over the last 2 years and only had one game last year that he didn't reach double figures - Round 7 vs. St Kilda. Was probably our BOG for both grand finals too.)

Amon Buchanan (Havent been a great fan of his so far this season but with Schneids gone, he and Moore working in tandem seems to be a pivotal part of future premiership assaults. IMO Schneider and Buchanan was the best small forward/mid combo in the AFL, now Bucky is needed to coach Moore into the same role.)
SS i do respect your posts for a young fella, but please don't say that Ablett skirts the packs.
His disposal could be better but in toughness he is 2nd only to Kirky, thats with Ben out of the side

I just don't rate him. IMO he adds little to the overall outcome of a match and yes his disposal efficiency is poor aswell.

That's all I'll say about him but I'd be spewing if Fosdike or Buchanan went and Ablett stayed.

mate, i wanted the swans to chase him in trade week last year
i've always thought he'd make it, i just think he had such a shocking run with injuries his first three years, and as a key forward he's probly at the worst club, in that he was behind two club legends (lloyd and lucas) trying to break into the side
i know sheedy had a massive opinion of him when you guys got him, but he had hip and leg (i think) injuries and for a while it seemed like his career would be over before it started
i'd gladly have him, i think given time to settle into our side he'd be more use than playfair, who i still hold grave doubts about

Steer clear of Courtney Johns!!!
Don't you remember Ryan O'Connor?;)

ryan o'connor ...ha! johns is better than o'connor, although that's not saying much
to me, johns is similar to jay schulz at richmond, another big KPP who just needs time, and has shown some good signs this year

ryan o'connor indeed!

Johns is a dud,if we went after him we could end up with another Chambers.
Welcome back Rancid

aye, cheers
i just don't think johns has been given a fair crack
he might actually be a dud, but he deserves to be allowed to play more than 3-4 games in a row in a key forward position and not feel like he's gone if one game doesn't go right

We need a 194cm+ forward who can mark and kick straight! Wtf is going on with Grundy, it would be great if he could pull his finger out. Otherwise - maybe Playfair can fill this role, again decent kicking is an issue.

A ruckman would be allright too :D

I thought Jess White's game against Nth Melb. was more than serviceable and deserved atleast another spot in the 22 against the bulldogs.

I hope Jesse is not another case of a young player that we see for part of a game never to be seen again. Does anyone remember the rapid rise and fall of Brett Thewlis ???

On the 194 + cms forward front, why not have a crack at Fevola. He was on the market last year and no-one would touch him with a barge pole. I don't think Carlton will ever let him go now, but I'd have a RED HOT go at Fevola if he was available.

Keep him off the drink and he is right up there with the best at the moment. He leads hard and kicks very accurately something our crew of aeroplane punt and butchering kick scrubbers from last game could have a good look at.

Interesting call. We do have a knack for picking up losers from other sides and making them awesome.

We have a nasty habit of losing games when Ablett doesn't play for us. We badly missed him in last year's final against Collingwood.

But don't worry. Not one of those three will go, unless someone asks for a trade.

Spida looks very, very old at the moment. I would love Currie to get one or two games this year and I personally hope Spida does retire at seasons end.

Do you think he will go around another year or move on?

Spida will go. He was really slow and couldn't even lay a tackle properly. Probably when he watched the replays on Monday, he'll realise how ridiculous he looked when he bent down to grab the ball.

he'll stay at the club as a ruck coach, i'd hope
surely he can't keep playing
