Parker said he did not absolve himself from responsibility in the game given his role as a Swans senior elder.

“I played my role in the game but I think I pride myself on building up the team, not just myself. And building up a team ready to compete in that moment. So that’s what disappoints me, in terms of my role in that. You are always reflecting on what I could have done. What could I have done pre-game, during the game? So that’s the hardest part.

That section really annoys me.

Parker was a star player in 2014, 2016, and 2022, and was totally overwhelmed by the pressure and did f all.

In 2024, he did nothing again until the game was over.

I am kind of in shock with how tone-deaf that is.

It’s fine. None of those games defined him. All good.

I like strong tacklers.

We had plenty of other senior leaders in 14 that absolutely shit the bed to

Rampe is a bigger culprit than Parker imo

Let’s be really the club as a hole shit the bed

We have plenty of players who have awful records in Grand Finals.

Parker, Rampe, Heeney, Mills, Franklin, Gulden, Blakey and on and on.

Parker is the only one I have heard/read who said 'I played my role but...'

I think the quote in question wouldn't read too badly if it weren't for the bolded.

Parker was somewhere in the 18th-22nd man range of the team by the time the grand final rolled around, so it kinda makes sense that Parker would be thinking his biggest impact could've been in a leadership/experience/preparation sense, more so than how he actually played.

But yeah to actually make note that he played his role, as though he was satisfied with how his game went when he really did nothing until junk time, is baffling.

I agree if you remove that line, it isn't as bad.

It's still a pathetic absolvement of responsibility even without the line imo.

His record in GFs is embarrassing.

It would be a good troll against his previous club… if he hadn’t played a leading role in losing 4 GFs on the trot, and was a bit player in the last one we won.
Why is it a troll? He's just speaking plainly.

Great quote!

I don't get the problem some people are having with this? Parker is not excusing himself - he's dissecting where he thinks he let us and himself down.

The entire premise of the article and the interview is that he played well in the grand final and his 'failing' was not helping his teammates prepare better.

He let us down by not getting the ball for 3 and a half quarters. Just like he did nothing in the other four grand finals he played in.

I think Parker has let himself down. His comments are poor whether he stayed with the swans or had left for another team.

You’d never hear a current player say after a GF smashing: I reckon I did my job okay but I could have done more to stop those around me falling to pieces.

And once you leave your club for another, you just don’t talk about your old club any negative way. It makes you look bitter.

His reflections may be okay a couple of years after he has retired, but yeah, still not sure how he can say he played his role in the first half. He was slow…

He might want to reflect sulking when he had to play VFL being a sideshow and distraction for the team as well, if he thinks he played his role in any grand final he is delusional.

But he isn’t here anymore so end of the day he can say what he likes as he career limps on at a minnow.

If Parker genuinely believes he played ok in the GF, then maybe he has been part of the problem.
