Anyone hear Paps on his Podcast?

I came in a bit late- but here’s what I thought he said -

“…….I said I’m not going anywhere and if Curnow is coming I’m definitely not going anywhere”

So sounds like he may have been approached - or asked?

Papley revealed his management made him aware that trade speculation would likely see his name linked to the Curnow talk, with the Swans attacker stating he won't be seeking a move away from Sydney, especially if the club secures the two-time Coleman Medal winner.
...
"My manager rang me (saying), 'Be wary if something comes out in the media in the next few days, and that your name is going to be thrown around in the Curnow stuff because of previous years,'" he added.

"I said that was fine. (My manager) was clear that it's not the club that wants to do that, it's solely on their management who's looking for someone to trade for Curnow.

"I was pretty stern with him that I'm pretty happy at the Swans. I'm definitely not leaving if Curnow is coming, I'll tell you that much.

Sounds like Papley thinks it would be fun to play alongside Curnow.

I think Papley thrives more as a number 2 forward rather than being the main guy. He was like this with Buddy. As soon as Buddy retired, his form dipped imo. If Curnow or JUH comes in I'm certain we'll see Papley's form improve dramatically.

Someone a while back when I was catching up on this thread suggested Paps liked playing with both Buddy and Hall and I felt like quoting the post pointing out Papley isn't quite that old!! But wasn't worth it..

Warning: this story mentions suicide and allegations of child sexual abuse.

Liam Foster was distraught. The 13-year-old member of the Sydney Swans Academy arrived home from school and went straight to the trophy cabinet in the living room. It was full – the rewards of his successes in a number of different sports.
Enraged, Liam opened the cabinet and began throwing his trophies and medals to the floor, leaving shards of gold plastic at the feet of his father, Geoff.
started smashing them and snapping them because I was so angry,” Liam, now 25, says.
“It felt like my whole world had come crashing down.”
Not long before, his father had reported Mark Heaney, Liam’s coach at the Swans Academy, to the police. A year later, Heaney would be sentenced to 18 months in jail for grooming Liam.
In the years that followed, Liam stopped playing sport, wondering if other coaches would treat him the same way. He second-guessed his ability, questioning whether he had ever had talent in the first place. He lashed out at authority and at his own family. His mental state would deteriorate until he attempted to take his own life.

“Destroying those trophies was my way of saying I didn’t want any part of it, that I didn’t even know who I was any more,” he says.
Liam’s lawyers have now filed a statement of claim in the NSW Supreme Court, seeking damages from the Swans and Heaney for the injury, loss and damage caused by Heaney’s grooming and other alleged abuse while he was employed by the club.

The claim alleges the Swans owed Liam a duty of care to take precautions to protect him from being exposed to sexual abuse, that they were negligent and caused harm by failing to take proper precautions and are vicariously liable for Heaney’s conduct as employing him in a leadership position provided him with the “ability to achieve intimacy with children attending the academy”. It also alleges that Heaney leveraged his position as a coach at the club to “groom and then physically abuse” Liam.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Sydney Swans said: “The club is aware of the legal proceedings and takes the matter very seriously. As the matter is before the courts, we are unable to provide further comment at this time.”

Until now, Liam has kept his identity secret and could not be named as the victim of crime while he was a child. But he believes that coming forward will help ensure that no other child has to suffer what he did.

“It’s not fair on children,” he said. “They’re innocent people, and they’re just chasing a dream.”

If you or anyone you know needs support, call Lifeline on 131 114, Beyond Blue on 1300 224 636 or the National Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence Counselling Service 24-hour helpline 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732.

EDIT - I've edited this post down to a few paragraphs because I saw the BF Mod post about sharing articles on the main board. I'd recommend reading the full article though.
This happened in 2012-2013 and the coach was found guilty and sentenced to prison in 2014

What an incredibly sad story, but how incredibly brave is Liam for releasing his name and putting his story out there in the world. I hope that, within time and with the right assistance, he manages to overcome this and realise his true worth as a person.

As a parent, if that had happened to my child, I think I'd want to kill or at the very least physically mame the perpetrator.

Further talk on the Curnow trade and that's fair. Blues aren't going to let him go for a bit player but its clear Paps is not moving and I doubt Blakey is either.

Well apparently the Carlton BF board have got it sorted;

Devastated and angry that this happened to Liam.

I’ll wait to see the outcome before commenting further. In the meantime I hope the club is taking responsibility where applicable (impossible to judge without the details).

Pridham flagging something I suspected would happen re. academy access changes:

Pridham said any changes to top-end Academy access would result in a change in funding.

"The reality is it's the major game development tool for New South Wales and Queensland, which is about 52 per cent of the population," Pridham said.

"If it is watered down to a point where it doesn't help deliver elite talent to the northern clubs, then I think investment will be certainly materially diminished. There are private funders and sponsors of the academies and that is seriously at risk. In terms of the Sydney Swans, if having the Academies is diluted in the pathways to come onto our list ultimately.

Not bad academy draft picks

Pridham pointing out the obvious to those who know how academies work. It's a given that critics of northern academies never have any suggestion of how they would develop NSW and Qld talent, or how they would make footy more attractive to young people than league or rugby etc., etc.

A prize to anyone who made it through this tortured sentence without making a WTF face:

Meanwhile, Sydney supported the current bidding system being held after not yet being tested under the revised Draft Value Index developed last year.
Presumably means 'retained' rather than 'held'. Honestly people, AI is coming for your jobs. Learn to write good.
