Current Sydney man Alexander Csergo charged with selling national security information to foreign spies

It's alleged two foreign intelligence officers offered Alexander Csergo money for information about Australian national security and he supplied the reports. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years jail.

Csergo is President Global Innovation & Transformation at CONVERSYS, an AI based real-time consumer communications technology solutions company.

Court documents show the alleged offences occurred in Shanghai, China and NSW between February 2021 and April 14, 2023.

Two points of concern (assuming guilt)
1) That the maximum sentence is so low, it should be life without chance of parole and confiscation of all assets given it was done for profit.
2) Why were Fed and state govt department so negligent as to allow a subcontractor to be hired who essentially lives in and does most of his work for an unfriendly foreign dictatorship?
