Common knowledge would be to do some research.
Swans were bottom 4 in 2019 and 2020. Does that qualify as bottoming out?
Adelaide were down for two years in the bottom 4 while Brisbane were 3 years.
So it’s a reasonable proxy.
Oddly Collingwood never seem to bottom out. Once in the bottom 4 in the last 15 odd seasons. Geelong never bottom out.
But yes it’s the Swans who never bottom out….

Immediately after the Grand Final embarrassment last year, Harley's statements on the club's FB page were acknowledging the loss but then going on about how well the Swans had done in their KPIs - eg crowds, memberships.
I'm not sure Swans fans were interested in KPIs right at that time.........misplaced priorities for mine.
He was part of the problem imo. I won't be sad to see him go. Hopefully he is replaced by someone who realizes that a football club is about winning flags, that KPIs are simply a means to an end and that losing Grand Finals should hurt.

Why? To ensure they dont stay down for long at all. Just as your common sense research will tell you.
No two years in the bottom 4 is not bottoming out.
Two drafts access to top 5 picks isnt bottoming out.
Go have a look at how long it takes to rebuild when the AFL doesnt shovel assistance and player priority access others dont get.
How long has Saint Kilda been rebuilding striving to contend? How long did it take Melbourne? North and the Eagles? Freo 30 years and one grand final.

To be fair the CEOs job is to worry about the business.
Sure winning means the business will perform better, but your KPIs as CEO are not wins and losses, they are financial statements.

The club has become a shadow of its former self.
e.g. On GF day the players forgot to tackle, and jumped out of the way of any physical contact, but good ole Dane Rampe somehow managed to remember to thank the Murdoch family and News ltd in his speech.
Culture has gone from body on line football first to meek and mild bank employees. Too much bathwater drinking.
Kinnear Beatson has ****ed up drafting by trying to pull off the hail mary genius moves - and they have all backfired.

The CEO is one of the last people responsible for your players choking up a storm in the most important game of the year.
I don't even think you can blame the coaches for that. They were just thoroughly awful and beaten soundly.
Drafting and Free Agency/Trade moves you can certainly blame...but for a lot of last year you were the best team in the comp and just fell at the final hurdle. Injuries to important players has cost you bigtime this year.
Not sure why the hell when you're being beaten by 90 points that you have Chad Warner sitting forward though either. Seems completely stupid. Cox seems to be a bit of a deer in the headlights.

They've got a ton of good players out, they got a new coach who only started this year and they've just got demolished in the last two grand finals they've played (2022 and 2024). Fair to have this year as a write off. If things are actually bad next year when they have players back in that's when folks should be concerned.
