Looking to make it three in a row against the swannies. Shame lower will still be suspended, his last game there was a watershed in his career.

Hopefully our new stoppage coach can give us some inside info too. :)

Yes that should give us some significant advantage as it has been at the core of their game. This game will be very carefully prepared for I would think, and while it will be tough, again I see it as part of a really good draw for us early in the season for Lyon. A couple of really tough games that jagging wins would have significant upside for the season as a whole.

Can anyone explain why we always play Sydney away?
I think in the last 7 or 8 years they have played us here maybe once???
:thumbsd:

They come here to play WC for their dying rivalry and they cant come here twice a year maybe? Even though we go the other way every second week..

We were the only team to beat them at the SCG last year from memory, and we won there the year before as well. To be honest, if it means teams like Geelong, Collingwood and Hawthorn play us in Subi, I'm fine to play Sydney at the SCG.

Nah hawks , blues , cats from memory all beat da swannies at da SCG, I think da tiges might've won there too.

I think we match up well against them and would be disappointed to lose, even if Sydney are a good team. If we cant beat this type of side most times, we arent good enough for the flag imo. Although they will be coming off an extra weeks rest, not sure if thats a good or bad thing so early on. Probably be confident after pumping GWS by over 150 points.
Fyfe 3 brownlow votes.

Well realistically we aren't.

Where do you see us winning this game?

I dont think their forward line is as good as our defense, and imo we will shade them in the middle, assuming a fit Mundy and Sandi. Only real concern would be how Clarke performs (if he's hopeless they can cover Pav with more numbers) and what Goodes does, as ever. Not being disrespectful to the Swans, but we have beaten them on the road twice in a row.

And I think we have no excuses not to be aiming to win the flag. Wont be easy, but we do have some bloody good players. I think alot of people have forgotten how good Freo are with the best 22 out there, and how good a forward Pavlich is. But as with every sport, need things to go our way.

Personally I dont see Carlton as being good enough, they are all midfield imo, and if you draw the midfield you can win the game elsewhere. Hawks are very good but they arent invincible with a short defense, nothing in the ruck and injury prone squad. Geelong are great but lost a couple of blokes and another year on the clock, might not go backwards but wont go forwards, plus no Ottens come finals. Pies very good but we have seen they are beatable if you can get the game plan right, and then match their intensity. Eagles very good also but not quite ready yet imo, their draw is worse, and surely they cant be so lucky with injuries 2 years running.

Not saying we will win the flag, but imo we shouldnt be afraid to play any team, and we DO have a good enough squad that the objective should be trying to win the flag. People say we are weak forward. Our greatest player is going to be our key forward, we cant be that bad.

Sydney are always around the mark.

Advantage we have is I think we have a couple of gears to go up, I think Sydney pretty much play at capacity.

We match up pretty well, will be interesting to see the arm wrestle that the stoppages should create.

I'd be disappointed if we didn't beat them - if we are a top 8 club, they are one of the teams we need to beat (8 point game).

I know it gets said all the time but it could depend on whether Sandi is fit and playing. Mark Stone will know the small SCG well and we should be able to control the clearances which goes a long way to winning at the SCG. Our defence should chop them up but our forwards need to kick the goals. I always enjoy us vs Sydney.

I think Mummy vs Sandilands is a pretty good battle of the heavyweights. Will not be easy.

As well as Stone, Lyon was an assistant coach at Sydney, so they will know as much about the ground and its quirks as the Sydney gurus.
