The ones in bold the surprising ones, to me. Obviously rewarding early season form in Bailey and Smith, but Smith is still a bit too early.

(Cue "NSW bias")

Remember they based the selections on last year for the All*Stars so Reardon and Lockyer both had big series in the Big Bash.

Lockyer is coming off a Futures League match while I see Reardon just hit his maiden first class ton against the battling Windies (out for 147 actually).

Surprised about Tait though - he struggled in the Ford Ranger Cup against the Bulls in Alice Springs and sounds as if he is well off the pace at the moment.

Very surprising that Tait got in. Bowled terribly so far this year. Would have given Haberfield a run before him.

Smith/McDonald 12th man. White, Voges and Hussey can bowl (And I'm presuming Clarke can't), so we don't need 2 all-rounders. I'm sure those 3 plus McDonald/Smith can bowl 8 overs between them

Smith the more likely 12th man

What do you think the Aussie selectors would do if say Gilchrist and Hayden blasted Tait, McKay, Smith and co and set up a 0/180 sort of total and then Warne and McGrath came out and took 5 wickets each skittling the Aussie side for about 60. I know this is just a fun hit-and-giggle sort of game but it could put some serious pressure on players and selectors if the old heroes came out and embarrased the current crop.

Might sound outrageous, but if Gilly and Hayden bat out the 20 overs, they'll get more than 180. I doubt it will happen though. They must be a little bit washed up by now. Also doubt the selectors would let it be a factor in anything.

I would've had Krezja in the proper team. 20:20 gun.

I went to the equivalent game last year and the Aussie players had just come back from tour and weren't up for this contest at all. Most of them failed with the bat and bowled below their best. It was the retired stars (Justin Langer made a 50, Gilly etc) and state players (Dighton's catch) that made what was a pretty dull event slightly interesting.

Australia to get absolutely thumped and I hope they get thumped. Warne, Gilchrist, Hayden and McGrath should all still be playing T20 cricket for Australia.

Btw, Gilly played in the CL last month so he should have some sort of form going in.

Interesting having Manou and Gilly in the All Stars squad. Presumably Choc for 12th man?
They're playing 12-a-side

Looks like Rimmington's hurt his shoulder again, not much left in the fast bowling ranks:

Last year's Big Bash leading wicket takers:
13 Bird - injured
12 Gul - Pakistan
12 Nannes - injured
9 Simpson - spinner
9 Rimmington - injured?
9 Harwood - injured
7 Harris - injured
7 Krejza - playing spinner
7 Christian
7 Bollinger - rested
6 Dorey
5 Bracken - injured
5 Wright - injured
5 McDonald - playing
5 White - :o playing
4 Edmondson - injured
4 Marsh - spinner
4 Hussey - playing
4 Denton - injured
4 Laughlin - injured
4 Cleary - injured
4 Cameron - injured
4 Heal - spinner

McDermott time?

So Smith gets picked as the spinner, Hauritz obviously being rested, despite the fact that Holland went on tour of India.....

Hows is Voges getting a game over Hodge?

Hodge needs to move to NSW and get that blue cap I think before they pick him for Australia again. He's easily the best T20 player in the country. He is injured at the moment anyway I think, didn't play in the Shield game against WA last week.
