Hi all,
Today on TAC Cup Future Stars they had a Phantom Draft, so, for those who didn't watch it, here's what they think will happen come draft day...

Oh, and by the way, the picks are based on the CURRENT ladder.

1. Melbourne - PRIORITY - T. Scully - freak. Nothing more to say
2. Melbourne - J. Trengove - medium sized forward
3. Fremantle - A. Morabito - a bit like Adam Goodes
4. North Melbourne - D. Martin - has a big kick
5. WCE - K. Lucas - medium forward/midfielder
6. Richmond - J. Butcher - tall forward, could go at Picks 2-5 though.
7. Sydney - G. Rohan - can play wherever. Good kick at goal.
8. Hawthorn - B. Cunnington - A bit like Jimmy Bartel
9. Essendon - K. Stevens - inside midfielder
10. Port Adelaide - L. Tapscott - medium forward/midfielder
11. Carlton - A. Christensen - ball magnet
12. Brisbane - J. Crichton - good kick, midfielder
13. Adelaide - J. Carlisle - apparently a freak. Tall forward.
14. Collingwood - N. Vardy - 198cm ruckman.
15. W Bulldogs - D. Talia - can play back and forward KP
16. Geelong - A. Moore - very 'versatile' midfielder/forward
17. St Kilda - J. Gysberts - very consistent, could potentially go top 10. Would be lucky to drop so low.

Any thoughts?

I like the look of it. I'd be suprised if Carlton went for another midfielder but wouldn't be totally disappointed to get Christensen. Looks a likely type.

I agree, but i think i would go for Tahlia instead and hope that one of Griffiths/Panos fall to our pick.

I believe Butcher will go higher, probably to NM. They still need KPF even if their midfield lacks class, they need to address the fwd line issues. Hansen is a CHB not a CHF so Butcher seems a good fit.

Cunnington. His name is Cunnington.

And surely a more accurate description of Jack Trengove is '****ing gun onballer', rather than 'medium sized forward'.

I can't for the life of me work out why no one rates Mitch Duncan. I've got him at 6 at the moment, to me he looks exceptional.

A lot of people seem to disagree, but at this stage I'm not convinced Andrew Moore's a first rounder. I see the Ryan O'Keefe comparisons physically but as a player he doesn't anywehre near the natural accumulator of possessions that O'Keefe is. In my mind, he's a guy that threatens to break games open, but very rarely does. Personally, I see him as a mid second rounder.

I'm also of the opinion that if Butcher's available, Melbourne should take him. I think Trengove's great, but I think Butcher would straighten Melbourne up going forward and structure's extremely important in my mind.

Finally, I'm still not entirely convinced by Jake Carlisle, although I do like him a lot.

It's what they said.
Panos>>>Christensen.

Im still convinced that we will go for a KPP over mids, we really have to stock up on some talls before the comprimised drafts. Clearly the TAC cup future stars team don't rate the other talls in the draft.

another aspect of cunnington's game is that he is a real good leader

im an essendon fan. i definatly want 4 gun midfielders picked up over the next 2 years. would be happy with stevens but hoping cunnington, lucas or rohan slip through to us. we have done well last 2 years and if we can getgumbleton and jetta up and another gun this draft tp 4 sopts wont be far away

They didn't specifically say why Butcher would slide, but it's what they think and I am just passing on their info to all of those who didn't watch.

Oh, and with Moore, I think they said that he was more of a forward than a midfielder, but I'm not sure. They showed some footage of him kicking a goal, and it was a pretty good kick from around 40 on the boundary.

Just a question, did anyone watch it?

Shhh!...let everyone forget him :p

I agree completely, he looks an extremely polished player with good size and room for development.

Yeah an AA mid/forward falling to the second round is laughable. The only question mark he has is over his leg speed, hardly going to kill his AFL career given how highly skilled he is.

If he falls to the second round whoever gets him is laughing.

duncan is one of my personal favourites also, was very impressed with him. there is not alot between his best and worst, hes a very solid consistent performer. if we take butcher with our first pick id love him at the tiges, particularly with foley, deledio and tambling all possesing leg speed.

Butcher slid because he had a poor carnival in the Under 18 National Championships this year.

The talk before the championships was that he would go pick 2 overall, behind Scully, but he has since slipped down the pecking order.

He is still regarded as the best key forward in the draft, but a couple of midfielders in Trengove and Morabito appear to have gone past him.

A lot will come down to which teams have which picks. There has been talk that the WA sides will take local talent with their first 2 picks, which is not hard to believe given that Morabito and Lucas appear to both be top 5 selections.

It seems Melbourne will definately take Scully at 1, but it's very hard to predict 2 onwards with any real accuracy.

Pace wise I still think he's pretty strong. Regardless, even if his 20m time isn't amazing, he plays quick and that's all that matters really. Everyone was up in arms about Hurley's pace last year and even in a handful of games it's clear it's not going to be the slightest problem for him at all - he plays quick.

Why on Earth would we pick Carlisle with our first pick? We have drafted Davis, McKernan, Young, Lee, Henderson as a rookie, Walker as NSW Scholarship and Kite and Donnelly can play forward as well. It would be a complete waste of a pick for us.

I am with you - Mitch Duncan is very underrated.

I hope this Phantom Draft goes just as planned! Daniel Talia at the Dogs would be awesome. I've been liking him ever since I first saw him, a good athletic player with a strong mark. Oh and what ever happened to Fitzpatrick?

Would be really happy from Essendon's point of view if that all panned out as it will force our hand to pick Stevens who I rate as a better mid than Martin and Cunnington so looks good. However would be happy with either of those 3 next year but like the height of Stevens over the smaller Cunnington and his versatility is better than Martin especially defensive work.
