Fined, no conviction recorded:

I was always of the understanding that retired/delisted players remained on the list until first list lodgement at the end of the season, only they would be moved to the inactive list to allow for MSD picks. As you say, maybe the key difference with Stengle is that his contract was terminated from March (with his agreement), as retirees likely are, compared to Thomas who remains contracted until the end of the year - regardless of his status on the list. ie contract status vs list status.

He's not retired or delisted until he is delisted though.

It's only a minor detail, but plenty of clubs don't delist players and they are required to move via the PSD or nominate for the main draft in an instance where they are not free agents.

It's a weird situation that hasn't been clarified by anyone in the media.

The AFL has confirmed we don't receive a MSD pick.

My point was, we sacked him to maintain community standards and expectations of the competition and the code.

This is not a situation where someone has committed a crime which voids their standard playing contract.

North have to settle with Thomas and his manager regarding his contract for 2024, as his conduct is not (despite all the hounding from the AFL/Media/Supporters) was not grounds for termination and forfeit of remuneration.

In fact, the latest accusation which had Thomas sacked, was withdrawn by the woman following his sacking.

His suspension was the result of repeat behavior and numerous warnings from both the AFL and NMFC.

Now, we could have easily kept him on the list until the end of the year, at which point a club which wanted to recruit him would have had to trade for him.

The issue here is the ease at which clubs can recruit him as a DFA (if that is what he even is at the moment).

The grey area here also is why is he a delisted free agent if he isn't delisted?

You sacked him because he was a repeat offender and if your clubs culture is as bad as reported this bloke being removed is only going help it moving forward.

All your players either have mothers, sisters daughters etc they shouldn't have to deal with someone like him.

Surely it's not that difficult for you to distinguish between playing standards culture and community behavioural standards culture. We maintain a high standard in relation to the latter (as do most clubs). TT's behaviour is all on him as the type of person he is and not a result of North's culture.

You might have noticed that him being removed has done exactly zero to improve the playing standards culture.

The Scott comments are really just a reflection of the weird echo chamber people employed in the AFL exist in. The longer they stay, the more bizarrely out of touch with reality they become. Watch any of the footy media shows, they’re all essentially 16 year olds playing championship manager but actually getting payed for it.

On North, they gave him plenty of chances, certainly more than he deserved, I do t feel sorry for them, but I do understand their angst about another club giving him another undeserved chance.

Any comment justifying Tarryn's return is out of step. I agree about your comments in regards to the echo chamber. The redemption stories are writing themselves and they just do not work in the present climate.

North has showed more integrity by not trading him or looking to offer him a pathway back than some of the rubbish that has been cranked out. There are many professions where Thomas would be banned for life.

I support Tarryn accessing the help he needs and I support the AFL providing it. He doesn't need a contract for that to happen. For him to return to stardom is a slap in the face to the victim-survivors who work in the industry (and statistics say there), to any female players or officials and any others who have basic integrity and morality.

I would have thought that the "compensation" that North will receive is that they now get to not have an abusive little sh*t in their club.

Demanding a reward for simply doing the right thing is acting pretty entitled and shows just how many people are still entirely missing the point about how unacceptable his behaviour was.

And the team that simply does the wrong thing and picks him up is richly rewarded.

What's your label for that one?

Afl clubs exist to win premierships (with exception of port), not set "community standards" or whatever the phrase is. so if TT will get a team closer to a flag then it's frankly a no brainer

Clubs are part of the community. Expressing the values of the community has always been core to their existence.

You are simply annoyed that they are expressing values you don't hold.

Time will tell, id put money on him being on an AFL list again and the supporter base of that team turning a blind eye to his past, especially if he can recapture his form

This is possible. The AFL being hypocritical is nothing new.

Supporters will always turn a blind eye.

Teams have had players playing for them that have been in jail…
Supporters kept cheering those players.
In fact it was the “feel good story” of the 2011 GF. A player going from jail to playing in a Grand Final.
Has Tarryn served prison time?

If he can somehow demonstrate he’s on the right path, I can’t see why he can’t be given another chance.

And he being a “superstar” for that team. And he does not re offend ,because he thought his talent gave him a free pass but has seen that it wasn’t a false warning last time and north had the guts to go through with it. And he could’ve legit has his one talent taken away from him.
Only for him to probably reoffend once he retires .

Like Essendon with Stringer
Crows with Carey
the list goes on

Gary Albett snr a definite for Legends admission this year then !.

Again, he doesn't deserve it because of the circumstances which led to a young woman death but the public really have no idea what Ablett did throughout his entire career off the field. Was an absolute loner who shit teammates up the wall because he did not want associate with them at parties or events.
Was often helping out the community and did a lot charity events which went unnoticed. Preferred to stay away from cameras.
Shocking at money management. Would frequently run up large bills at local gas stations and businesses expecting the club to pay it off but he was always willing to give his time for the sick and the elderly where he delivered fruit and vegetables as a secondary job.

I'll never forget one of the stories I read on here where a young North Melbourne fan was eager to get Wayne Carey's signature at a club event one day.
Carey apparently lit up a cigarette and brushed off the kid, leaving him visibly upset.

Some blokes were full of themselves when they were at the top of their game. Ablett was never that person.

Have never heard that before.

I hope Geelong pass on him.
As talented as he is, some guys will never learn.

Various labels could apply but scummy is probably the most user friendly. The team that picks him up will then have to deal with the "community pressure" that North apparently bowed to and they will hopefully be blasted for it by all sections of the football public and media. That may or may not happen but I think it should and certainly hope that it does. This last week has shown that at least some in the media are willing to call out the AFL and the interested teams though at least.

You could also make your same argument about stealing though. It's a petty basic expectation that people don't steal stuff, but if you want to look at it in a twisted "what about me" type of way then you could also say that the person who doesn't steal isn't rewarded for it and the one that does just go and steal stuff is richly rewarded for it because they get free stuff. It's still a crappy thing to do and something that an organization who are supposed to be representing a community shouldn't be doing regardless though.
