Hasn't he been charged with the revenge pr0n stuff?

Also im sure he's already been given plenty of "education" on this stuff in the last 4 years.
I'm not sure what point you are trying to make.
I said on the last page that I felt it was weird he isn't being stood down, and then queried the AFL's policy on stand down clauses.

what a joke. think thomas needs a bit more than education as to how to conform to 'north melbourne's values'

embarrassing
This is the club which hails Wayne Carey as a hero. This is the club that has backed Alistair Clarkson to the hilt. Thomas is confirming to North Melbourne's values.

To be honest she is probably handling things directly by the book and weathering the calls for sackings or suspensions.

This way she is not putting the club at risk of a legal action for unfair dismissal etc.

Here's the problem though, he's already been charged with something and is being investigated for these other serious allegations.

At the very least, you could stand him down indefinitely on the basis of being charged for threatening to distribute revenge pr0n. Wait until he has his court day and then reinstate him after official club sanctions have been put in place.

This is far too milquetoast for mine, and places North in a very delicate position - especially with its own female members -, who will have some very strong feelings and opinions if they see him continue training/take the field.

Can't imagine female staffers/employees at the club would feel too comfortable being around him either.

The "new" DV issues seem to be revelations of stuff from last year?

They would be admitting they covered it up and would have had to stand him down at the time if it had been common knowledge.

I do too.
But isn't the no stand down clause thing an AFL wide policy?
Obviously its different once a court finds you guilty of something.
Not sure if things have changed, policy wise. We stood Patton down immediately.

The Swans set a strong precedent w/ their handling of Elijah Taylor.
Its different because Taylor pled guilty.

If TT told the club he was planning to plead guilty, or if he was found to be guilty of the revenge pr0n thing, then I'd expect action on his employment.

As fun as bashing the Roos is, if we want a serious conversation about why Thomas isn't being stood down, we have to consider the AFL's refusal to adopt a no fault stand down policy.

Patton wasn't a good footballer by the time he got to Hawthorn though. Thomas was one of North's most promising players just a year ago.

It makes a big difference to how they are treated

Patton had some well documented injury issues which meant he joined us cheaply, but despite his first year with us he was looking fit in the preseason and was going to be our number 1 key forward when the news broke and we stood him down immediately.

I'm unsure of the direct timeline of Elijah Taylors case; but the Swan's suspended him immediately after he was charged.

Nobody could know whether he told them how he intended to plead at the time, and I doubt it would have made a difference.

The way I read it, that is exactly what she is saying in her post. These parts illustrate their knowledge of his behaviour prior, and that they've already taken steps to address it - via a psychologist, education programs and community outreach:

"The club was aware of formal allegations made against Tarryn during 2022 that were investigated by the AFL’s Integrity Unit. Tarryn and the club co-operated fully with those investigations.

The advice provided by the AFL following these incidents was that Tarryn should undertake training and education to deal with his behavioural issues.

The club has since built a significant and multi-layered program which includes respectful relationships education, working with psychologists, mentoring, peer support and community outreach for Tarryn to complete so he can meet North Melbourne’s values and community expectations. He has started work on this program and we’ll continue to support Tarryn as he completes this work.

Should any further investigation arise from new information passed on to the AFL or the police, the club and Tarryn will co-operate fully, as we did in the wake of those initial allegations."

**********************************

Everything in that statement is worded extremely carefully - and nothing in there suggests that this is either new, or shocking information. Even when she addresses it at the end, she still says 'should any further investigation arise from new information provided to police- suggesting that they have all this info, and will only be surprised if new info comes to light from the Vic Pol investigation. If this was new, or it was a surprise, I would have expected part of the statement to be more like this:

"The club was made aware of allegations against Tarryn during 2022. In respect to the seriousness of the purported offences, these allegations were taken extremely seriously, and were forwarded on to the AFL integrity unit and Victoria Police. Advice provided by the AFL was to undergo counselling, community engagement and rehabilitation, in order to address his behavioural issues."

In light of the new and confronting allegations levelled against Tarryn in the Herald Sun on 31/01/2023, the club has reached out to the affected parties. Once further investigation is completed, we will provide notice on proposed outcomes for the alleged victims and Tarryn. Until then, we will be making no further comment at this stage."

**************************

At no point does she suggest that this is new information, that Tarryn will be stood down, or that the club or the AFL will be doing any further in light of these 'new' allegations.

All this suggests to me that she and the club are not surprised at all by the article released last night, and don't look like doing anything more than they already have - despite the seriousness of the allegations detailed in the Herald Sun article.

She's already admitted they knew, without outright admitting that they knew.
