Has a sweet vertical leap as well. In many ways he's another Campbell Brown, but with better foot skills. For those who don't remember, Brown had a fantastic standing vertical jump.

Yep I do recall. From memory, there was a season in which he played well on some of the best key forwards in the game and he earned an All-Aust jumper that year, but then the AFL brought in rules to stop chopping of the arm and Brownie was back to playing on players of his own size.

The amount of people going on about the fumbling is bs. Players from both sides were dropping chest marks, getting clean bowled and kicks were skidding through from 70m. Wasn't just first gamers either. The only bloke who clunked everything was Cloke unfortunately.

Watched the replay which changed my opinion of his first game from being just ok, to actually being quite good for a debutant. Yes he fumbled a few times but he put in the second efforts and either followed up and got the ball back or ran to the next contest to provide an option. Also does all the small things well such as spoils, tackles etc. Look forward to hopefully seeing him again this weekend

Mitch fumlled a couple as did many others. Doc acquitted himself very well, and his disposal was better than a lot of more experienced players. It seems we have a few posters on here who can only criticize and find fault with players no matter what. I guess those posters are just prefect!

Couple of moments in the game I liked from him, first was his tackle just after a centre bounce. Holding the ball and won us the clearance. The second was when he spoilt a Collingwood attack which led to Rioli dashing through the middle and we scored a goal. For a first game I thought he did some really good things and read the play quite well. It's never easy, especially for a defender to step up to AFL level and handle the intensity levels and skills but he did it well and deserves to hold his spot

This was a huge moment of the game, he had to make that spoil otherwise it would've been a certain goal to Collingwood as they had numbers free after that play, in comes Duryea with a big spoil into Cyril's hands and then all is good. Was an important part of the game too so as my mates around me were happy with the goal I was saying to one of them just how crucial Duryea's spoil was there and that we can thank him for not only the goal but saving a certain goal the other way. He did make some mistakes but so did everyone, he looks like he belongs at AFL level!

Like how he goes about it. has a bit of mongrel in him too.

more importantly, what's the young lads nickname going to be?

thought it was a superb debut. his kicking was great and he was very physical, but there was one piece of play that stood out.
cloke and shoey one out on the wing and ball kicked high in the air where cloke had the sit for an easy grab. duryea came from no where, leaving his man to go third man up and smashed the ball over the line. unbeknowns to him, a free kick was paid to cloke for shoey getting a bit high in the contest, but this play by taylor showed me he understands the team rules and he backs himself. i think we have a gem here!!

very good points, he debuted in a wet high pressure game against a quality side. If people are going to pigeonhole him for his fumbles, what about Jodan Lewis? I thought he had a horrible game and barely handled a ball cleanly.

One thing i tend to look for in first game players is composure and he was definately composed given the conditions.

Agreed. Regardless of fumbles he made good decisions under pressure. ANd when he did fumble he kept going got into correct position and didn't let it phase him.

A really tough kid by the looks. Well done on an a great debut. Hope we see more of him. He just looks 'at home'. A few fumbles, but who didn't?
Most importantly to me was not his pressure, his hardness, his ball use, his run, his tackling.......none of these. I was most impressed with his ability to keep X. Ellis out of the side. If he maintains this ability for the rest of the season the mighty Hawks may have really have found one here.

I remember reading (probably on this very forum) a couple of years ago that young Taylor had a great footy brain. Now that he has been introduced into the senior side, it has become clear that his level of footy smarts and maturity is exceptional. Those worried about the fumbling at Sunday's match shouldn't. All our players fumbled. It was raining.
I'm excited about Taylor, in the same way I'm excited about Jed and Brad. They have hunger and look like they'd do anything to play for us. We have missed this kind of grunt in our youngsters lately and I'm hoping it sparks the others to lift their game. Our recruitment team should really be applauded.

He fumbled quite a bit. He is a prospect for the future no doubt but I just wasn't as impressed with his debut as everyone else on here obviously was
Ease up dude FFS it was the kids first game and in case you did not notice the ball was slippery for a fair bit.

I loved his attack on the ball. He can crunch packs.
He also was not afraid to leave his man to help his team mates get a clearance out of the backline.
Also has great foot skills. I reckon with experience he could be good enough to take kick outs.
He's a keeper.

I am sure he is being groomed for this:thumbsu:
