Martin will be in the team come R1.
They didn't pick him in R22 for no reason, we didn't have 'too' many injuries then, plus all our oldies were gone then too. Oretty sure he's been earmarked for a proper role in the team, lightning player that breaks the lines. 2nd game back from a knee, and to have a game like that is staggering, I wanna see him in the team, we'll look like a pretty damn quick team with McKay, Danger & Martin running around.

His disposals against St Kilda r22 2010.
15 Kicks
13 Handballs
28 Disposals
9 Marks
1 Goal assist
8 Inside 50's

There's no way in hell we'll be leaving someone that can have 8 Inside 50's in the one game languishing in the seconds.
There's no doubt in my mind he'll be playing R1, no doubt at all.

The run he took against St Nick at the dome (I was there) pretty much sums up how this guy is and how he see's his footy. I remember looking at my cousins after he took em on in that game..thinking 'wtf? Did that just happen, who is this guy?'

A lot comes down to position as well, but it seems that competition all over the park is relitively fierce, especially at small forward, where Jacky and Petrenko will compete.
This will be Jacky's best year IMO

Tambling and Hendo could be added to that list! We are becoming a far cry from the days when teams used to plan on exposing the Crow's lack of pace. Even when we were winning more than losing a few years ago I never felt confident about the Crow's being a premiership team. I am much happier with where we are heading now as far as the type of personel we are assembling.

B: Johncock, Rutten, Stevens
HB: Tambling, Davis, Doughty
C: Mackay, Vince, Douglas
HF: Jaensch, Walker, Knights
F: Porplyzia, Tippett, Dangerfield
R: Jacobs, Thompson, van Berlo
I: Otten, Reilly, Martin
S: Henderson
E: Maric, Symes, Sloane

I think we might go with one ruckman, Tippett & Stevens pinch hitting.

It seems most peoples opinion on the new bench rules points to one ruckman in the team? how do u think your team will structure this? im very interested to see what most teams will do!? imo sammy jacobs is a walk up start to your team, but he will need decent rests. We saw this year when we had players go down ie kreuze he struggled to keep up all game as most would! He can go forward and is a great contested mark & kick but who rucks for you then? tippett is a big injury risk if competing in the centre square that i wouldnt want to be taking!

I feel the blues are a bit better poised in kreuze when fit again can go fwd or play elsewhere, im not sure what a true & only ruck will do thou!

sorry for the invasion, just interested having a read on your best 22's thoughts. I hope sammy kicks arse for you, I love him!

Can't find a spot in the 22 for our 2010 B&F?

Having had a good chat with one of the players who will be involved in our ruck rotations about this very thing, at the moment we are planning on having 1 ruckman in the mold of Jacobs/Maric, who will ruck for 70-80% of the game, with a more mobile ruckman like Sellar/Stevens/McKernan/Moran spending 40-60% game time as a KPP and filling in that extra 20-30% gametime as a ruckman. Tippett is another possibility, but we've tried splitting his game time between forward and ruck for three years running and it just hasn't worked, with Tippett struggling to adapt to the dual role and our forward line structure being exposed without our #1 forward there for considerable periods of the game.

Good effort except swap Douglas and Symes, and then put Douglas on the wing in place of Doughty. Douglas is well and truly in our starting 18.

Given the outs from last year. On paper our team looks very competitive. Sadly it rarely turns out that way.:(

I know what you mean.

Cannot help but be enthusiastic about our list though. Starting to get some flair and X-factor to compliment the workhorses. Attack looks potent, Midfield looks acceptable if we can get some good cameos to help the usual suspects, and defence is starting to get some more run back though our talls aren't overly attacking/athletic back there.

For my R1, I'd go:

B: Otten, Rutten, Johncock
HB: Tambling, Davis, Martin
C: Mackay, S Thompson, Vince
HF: Knights, Walker, Dangerfield
F: Porplyzia, Tippett, Jaensch/Callinan (pre-season shoot out to split these 2)
1R: Jacobs, Reilly, Douglas
I: Moran, Henderson, vB1 + Sloane.

E: Sellar, Doughty, Jaensch/Callinan.

However, it's fair to say Stevens and Doughty have the players and match committee endorsement so they'll play. In terms of solid contributions, they'd probably be an initial improvement anyway despite having limitations. I'd struggle to leave any of the above out, but I'm sure injury will make the process easier.

Of the others, I'd love to see Sellar and Petrenko get some games in defence at some stage, McKernan trialled as 2R/forward, and sneak a couple development games in for L Thompson, Talia, Gunston and Smith at some point if SANFL form earns the right.

Id like Petrenko to get a go in Johncocks position and maybe we can try get Johncock in the middle . Luke thompson I see him as an eventual better CHB then Phil Davis as he is more rebounding and alot quicker and also stronger and dont be suprised if we see Sam Shaw get a go as he is really talented and a left footer ( we dont have many and every team need two of them at least) whom can play the role vacated by Goodwin on the Half Back Flank. I know this might suprise a few but I think Gunston will eventually become our Brendan Goddard type once he gets the belief in himself. Talia still has abit to do to prove to me he is worthy at the moment. If they are going to play two ruck then I think it will be Jimmy Sellar who will get the nod.

Although the Blues are in a good spot with this new rule, I shudder at the thought of Kreuze being Kozified played at FF. But anyway.

You are right, Jacobs didn't run out the games that well last year, but he does have an excellent endurance base. I wouldn't be surprised to see NC push this and use Tippett as back up. Otherwise Sellar, Moran or McKernan will play KPP/2nd ruck. Or Maric will develop a second bow to his arsenal.

I like that a lot. Just about perfect in my books. Id love to squeeze Martin in but I am just not sure where. Maybe instead of Reilly?

Wood Duck, you've seen plenty of Callinan. Will he cut it at this level, and if so, should he be a walk-up start for Round 1?

I think he just might....

Sadly not as much as I would have liked in the last 12 months or so.

I like Callinan a lot though, hes the kind of footballer Id take my son to watch (if not for the fact I have 3 daughters).

Its a good question, my gut feeling is that he will be a good player at AFL level. Id love to see him play in round 1, it just depends how he travels in the pre season games. My fear is that he will be behind Porps and maybe Jaensch in the pecking order and this may limit his opportunities. Hes unspectacular, but a very clever footballer.

If he gets an opportunity I reckon he will surprise a few people, hes the type of bloke and the type of footballer that could make the transition.

Reilly is our best stopper.

Who do you give the shut down role to if you take him out. Remember he played ripping footy late last year as well.

Not saying he deserves a spot over Martin either, just getting the debate going.

Reilly was one of the success stories of the season taking over the Rob Shirley role.

Martin showed his class when he came back from his ACL.

Both deserve to be in the 22 on that basis. It just shows how hard it's going to be to get a spot in the 22 if all players are available.

Radar gets the nod over Martin at this stage. Martin will be an absolute gun for this club, if he can have an injury free PS and beginning to the year expect him to be in the side pretty soon. Radar is the no 1 stopper along with VB and although he has his haters he is a very good player. If he can become damaging on the scoreboard like he was in 05 and 06 he'll play most games next year.

Good thing for Radar AND Martin fans is they aren't competing for jobs.

I believe Marting will be hovering around Goodwin's old role and Reilly can only be challenged. A few players could develope in that role, or you could go to past stoppers like VB or Dogga. ATM I think it's Radar's spot in the 22 to lose.

Agree.:thumbsu: Radar is in the best 22. Martin will get his chance.
