Why is that when I think of Radar and Symes, I think of devastating defeats.

I'm happy to admit this is my own problem if necessary.
Reilly's played 135 games for 75 wins and 60 losses.
Symes' overall record is 67 games for 36 wins & 31 losses. With Adelaide it's 48 games for 28 wins & 19 losses.

Symes did have a losing record at Port - 20 games for 8 wins & 12 losses - but I suspect that's not what you were looking for. ;)

Both players have winning records of over 55% with the AFC. The only conclusion I can draw is that this one is indeed your problem.

I shall seek the appropriate counselling then.

I think it's because Symes played in the 07 GF.

What's the consensus on Porplyiza?

He's been listed in every team I've seen (including mine) but I think his 2010 form will see him face a lot of pressure to retain his spot early in the season.

We know his best is excellent but I hope we see enough of it to keep him in the side.

Add his name to the list of key players who suffered from the pre season disaster. He will be fine, you dont just lose talent like that.

It took Porps all year to get over his horrible start to last season. He would have been as frustrated as all hell. Would expect him to be back to his best next season. Pressure will be on for spots all year, but you would expect him to be easily in the best 22 when fully fit.

We can't forget that going into the 2010 season, that Porps had effectively missed two full preseason's, which for a bloke who's not naturally fit is extremely detrimental. I bet that if he can get a full, uninterrupted preseason in this year, then we'll see a completely different Porplyzia to the one we saw in 2010. One which will hopefully spend considerable time in the midfield, thanks to the improved fitness that such preseason would afford him. Should he be able to do this, he should provide us with the fourth A-grade midfielder that we probably require to seriously push for finals(with Thompson, Vince and Douglas making up the other 3).

Reilly is our best stopper.

Who do you give the shut down role to if you take him out. Remember he played ripping footy late last year as well.

Not saying he deserves a spot over Martin either, just getting the debate going.

Sloane played the majority of his footy in 2010 at HF however with Knights back and Jaensch emerging I would consider Sloane with a full pre-season under his belt as another option for the defensive midfielder role

Sloane played this role in the TAC cup and as a result won the TAC coaches award, so he has the attitude and discipline to play the role

Sadly not as much as I would have liked in the last 12 months or so.

I like Callinan a lot though, hes the kind of footballer Id take my son to watch (if not for the fact I have 3 daughters).

Its a good question, my gut feeling is that he will be a good player at AFL level. Id love to see him play in round 1, it just depends how he travels in the pre season games. My fear is that he will be behind Porps and maybe Jaensch in the pecking order and this may limit his opportunities. Hes unspectacular, but a very clever footballer.

If he gets an opportunity I reckon he will surprise a few people, hes the type of bloke and the type of footballer that could make the transition.

Wood Duck

I see Porplyzia, Jaensch and Dirty Harry Callinan as different types of players who may play different types of roles

Porplyzia as a forward Jason actually plays taller than his size and he is more of a leading / marking forward, however I would like to see Jason spend a more time in the midfield and I think that this will be the case in 2011

Jaensch, I like this lad a lot (and by all reports his skin folds are way down) however even though he has had some success up forward I would like to see Matty play further up the ground where he can use his pace and raking kick to kick over the zones

Callinan, at AFL level he is very much suited in a small forward role, his footy smarts and elite foot skills will make him deadly inside the forward 50m, not to mention that he may fly under the oppositions Radar.....

I just sense that at the age of 27 the club has recruited Ian for a specific need / purpose and he may get his opprtunity as early as round 1 and if he does he wont let go.......

I know Jaensch and Callinan appear to be competing for the same spot up forward but anyone else think we could squeeze both of them in? It would be very handy to have them, along with our other small-medium mids, rotated through the forward line. Have a look at Collingwood: they have Didak, Beams, Sidebottom, Davis (albeit he was useless in the GF), Thomas and Blair rotating through there. Makes it very hard to match up on.

With the new interchange rules, midfielders resting up forward will become even more common. Callinan and Jaensch could at least play burst roles in the middle. Callinan is a gun SANFL mid and should be at least servicable in the AFL, and an even fitter Jaensch should be able to push up the ground on occassion in 2011. I think a forward line with Douglas, Porps, Knights, Sloane, Jaensch and Callinan (hopefully with Milera eventually overtaking his spot in a couple of years) at the feet of our KPPs should provide both good defensive pressure and unpredictability.
