Just chuck beamsy in to do his job, it is not like we are playing Geelong and he has to be at least on par with O'bree, who has been in shit house form.

Not a bad selected squad.

Looks like Bally has pulled up sore and being rested which is a good idea... Give him 2 weeks off then back firing for the second half of the season.

Usually the selected on field 18 players play so with the extended interchange I hope we line up something like this.

IMO

INS: Barham, Lockyer
OUTS: Ball, Johnson

Collingwood
B: Maxwell Prestigiacomo Toovey
HB: Shaw Reid O'Brien
C: Beams Swan Thomas
HF: Sidebottom Cloke Didak
F: Medhurst Brown Davis
Foll: Jolly Pendlebury Wellingham
Inter: Barham Fraser Lockyer Macaffer

I agree that looks like the team but I would not be surprised to see Reid rested and Dawes in. There is not an obvious match up for Reid and Presti but you can play 1 or the other and Presti has been out of the side for too long. Brown becomes the potential swing player forward back etc. This gives us the ability to strecth them down forward but remain reasonably mobile.

However Goldie could be in as a medium defender.

The Deeeees play medium forwards not talls unless they rest a ruckman.

Barham is due and his speed and ability to tackle will help

It doesn't sit well with me that younger players are forced to earn their position whilst O'bree is rewarded on a reputation that has exceeded it used by date. Terrific stalwart and by no means do I believe he should never play again, but he was atrocious against Brisbane and again last weekend in the 2's in conditions that should have suited his game. Obviously the final team will not be disclosed until tomorrow, but on exposed form O'bree would be behind almost every other player on our list. The only other currency should be the benefits that come with exposing our kids the real stuff, within reason and structure of course.

We have the experienced Swan and Pendles, plus 3 young boys in Wellingham, Beams and Sidey that are all more than capable of handling the tough inside stuff. In my opinion this is the perfect week to throw them the reins, any soreness from more inside work is offset by the week off. :thumbsu:

Would love to see Goldsack given a defensive forward position and Barham play a tagging role on Davey.

Lockyer will definately play i think. The last spot will need to be someone with pace but i would be surprised if both O'bree and Barham play. I think it will more than likely be:

Ins: O'bree, Lockyer, Barham
Outs: Ball, Johnson, Presti

Presti doesn't need to play this game. He knows it, the club knows it, and if we get a chance to rest him i say do it. He is too valuable to us to have him out of form for the finals. Leigh Brown and Lockyer can swing forward or back depending on matchups and i think we will have plenty of cover in the backline.. Where they got us last time was on the fast break therefore having presti run off his feet is not ideal.

I really like the resting of Ball. Managing his time at the midpoint was obviously planned from the outset. I would suggest he will be rested 2 or 3 weeks before the finals too..

What are people's thoughts on keeping O'Bree out?

Sure he is the most obvious replacement for Ball but it is not as if Melbourne have a lot of big bodied midfielders. O'Bree was terrible in his last game, why not use Beams and Sidebottom more in the midfield and even look to use Leon in the rotations seeing how he has found a bit of his old dash.

Exactly. Melbourne's mids are not exactly mature beasties, and I don't see why we couldn't be putting Beams, the Thomas's or various other options into the middle.

Quick hands, tackling, good decision making and disposal are more important v Melbourne's mids at this stage than O'Bree's 'big' body, surely.

Mick was just on SEN and said a training mishap, we lost someone in our starting 22, so there will be a 3rd forced change. Wouldnt say who it was, but said they would inform the AFL of the change.

Anyone have any idea who it was? anyone go to training?

"Mishap" or just spin for "rotation/rest policy" considering we have a lengthy brak until our next match.

Hopefully it's nothing serious to one of our real quality players.

The only reason I'm thinking it is not a rotation is that he refused to name the player.

That looks like a really good side. Maybe MM is getting O'Bree up to 250 or whatever it is and than he will retire.

Its O'bree Guys.

Dick comes into the squad

Yeah SEN said that CFC has confirmed it is O'bree out and dick in.

Reading the article on superfooty, they made it sound like it was one of our better players.. Not exactly worst case scenario!

Yeah I was fearing the worst, either pendles or swan at first. Just happy it was not them and one of our top players.

Beams and Barham will play in the same 22 once again!
