Team vs Saints

Captain Tom Harley, best & fairest winner Paul Chapman and Tom Hawkins have been recalled to the Cats’ 25 man squad to face St Kilda at Telstra Dome on Sunday.

Harley has been limited to one senior game and one reserves game so far this year. He ruptured a ligament in the little finger of his left hand in the opening round and has played just one VFL game since the surgery to correct the injury.

Chapman last played in Geelong’s record breaking win against Richmond, when he booted four goals. He sustained a hamstring injury early in that contest but has returned to fitness.
Hawkins has missed the past two games after kicking 11 goals in the early stages of his career and provides another forward option to the highest scoring team in the league.

Geelong will have to drop three players out of its squad by Friday night.

Plays well at the Dome, however he did nothing in the VFL last week, not a single stat... How can they recall him after that???? Crazy!

Hey there guys,

First time poster, long time GFC member.

Nice ins this week, I think Hawkins might play despite his poor VFL form, to stretch the Saints backline a bit. Chappy is a must and you'd think Harley would earn a recall, even though I'm not sure there's a spot for him anymore. Anyway, of that extended bench I think Harley, Blake, Stokes and Selwood should be retained. Although I'd be happy if any of that bench got a spot, they've all earnt it

Its a great problem to have.

For mine, id drop (none deserve this): Hunt (who else can you drop?), Selwood (for a rest) and Enright (needs a foot up the behind).

I think Selwood has become a very important part of our team. Complements our midfield and has terrific skills, so lucky to have got him at pick 7! I'd be more reluctant to drop him than Hunt. I agree that Enright's spot is no longer secure

I agree I think Enright hasn't stepped up like a few other passengers have. If I was to drop any out of the Backline for Harley it would be him.

Harely probably deserves a game and this would be a good one for him to come back in.

yup working out who to ommit from that list is a difficult job and one I am glad I do not have to make

Not sure there is room for all 3 to come in unless someone is carrying the odd injury that could benefit from a week off so they are 100% and not carrying it for the rest of the season?

Be very surprised if they made more then the one change, Chapman in place of, well toss a coin I guess, whoever it is can think themself very unlucky.
Personally think it wouldn't hurt to give Selwood a bit of a spell, hard call though.

Harley for Enright? Heck I must have been watching a different game last week if anyone thinks he deserves to be dropped, but I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.

Can play horses for courses given our current depth. Hawkins would be a nice in to stretch their defence, we'll need a tall in the goal square to kick long to given they will flood. Dunno if we need another tall in defence.

Nothing wrong with Enrights braveness or endevour. His average possession average is an impressive 23.4 but the downside is he averages 4.2 errors per game. That along with with his crappy tackling which gives up 1.9 free kicks a game diminishes his value

Welcome to the board mate! Good to have you on board.

I'd actually leave Hawkins out for the same reason as you'd include him. I think we'd need another ground level player in the forward line to pressure the Saints defenders trying to clear the defensive 50. I agree Hawkins would make a good target, but if he's up against a few players every time the ball comes down, due to St.Kilda flooding, he'll be next to useless once the ball hits the deck IMO.
