True.

I don't really mind either way. It would be a fascinating match-up and I would be heartened by the faith being showed in the kid should they do it.

Hansen wasn't exactly lighting it up in the VFL, so they must have brought him in for a reason...

This could be the start of something.

Hansen vs Franklin could be the next Carey vs Jackovich???

Great challenge for the kid. It will give us an idea of where he is at and I think we have a few options waiting in the wings if he does get pumped. I hope Lachy runs with him all day. Buddy might kick a few but then I think laids would take that at this stage. Much better to have a 50/50 with the option of Spud, Gibbo, Pratt coming over to help than simply having Buddy being just too tall for his immediate opponent.

Interesting to see if Laids goes with Hansen first up or Gibbo?

To be honest I think Franklinis going to trouble al our defenders, so it might not be such a bad move to give the kid first crack. Could be good for his development.

The only thing I don't want to see is Laidley doing a Zac Dawson to him, could be detrimental to leave him there all day if he is getting absolutely reamed.

I'm just praying for some rain, if it rains I think we are a massive chance.

I definatley don't think we should bend over and take it for the rest of the season. However the list we currently have isn't a premiership list. I think we should start rebuilding, playing the Josh Smith's and Scott Thompson's and delisting the Leigh Browns.
We haven't had a rebuilding phase since we dominated the 90's. That is the reason we've gone nowhere in the last 8 years. It's time to start developing players at a faster rate. If you put a young bloke in the side and tell him you are going to persist with him for a few games, it may give them the confidence to take risks. Putting blokes in the side and then dropping them the next week only makes blokes fear making mistakes, therefore they play in their shells and never develop.

Agree wholeheartedly.

One of the things that I've admired in Mick Malthouse as a coach is his willingness to play highly touted young kids from the get go. He seems to play them as soon as they arrive at Collingwood for a more than reasonable amount of time. I think that this allows them to find their feet, not to mention giving them a massive boost in confidence. It must be reassuring also from the young players' view point that he isn't going to be dropped in a heartbeat if he stuffs up, or has a quiet or apparently under performing game.

It's an interesting difference in player development styles when you take into account Dean did his formative years in coaching under Malthouse.

Anyways, all these injuries may be a mixed blessing as we may never have found out what some of them can do if given a sustained chance.

Madness IMO. The kid hasn't even played much in the VFL this season, let alone dominated there. To play on Franklin he'd have to have at least a few dominant games in the seniors to even be considered, especially given we have a bloke in our side who plays buddy as well as anyone in the comp.

Meh. I'm not too fussy either way. We did however play Lower on Ablett... surely there's not too much difference there. At least Hansen could rely on a backline that knows how to help each other out a bit.

Franklin is a weird player though, as most of his goals come after a super fast lead or a long, winding run through the 50 metre arc. The best you can hope for is to cut down precise midfield supply and move him to positions that aren't dangerous. They go to him so often and have plays designed to give him space, so he is ____ing hard to shut down. Freak.

I still reckon we pick Brown just to break his head before the bounce.

Sansbury is the man for that.

Can box.

Neither Brown nor Sansbury could do that. They are not good enough even for that purpose unfortuantely. Brown would never get near him, while Sansbury would catch him just to say G'day.

I have heard Eddie is unbelievable in the boxing ring. no one at the club can take him, and they use him to initiate new players.

Also, in an attempt to fire Wells up a couple of years ago, Laidley threw him in the ring with his good friend Eddie. Eddie is a boxing purist and gave him an almighty caning. He is not your placid, athletic little Eddie once he gets in the ring.

We just have to simulate a boxing ring on the field and get someone to ring a bell. Eddie will go nuts, Franklin will be done for.

Yes, heaven forbid we turn him into Zac Hansen (sic).

Absolutely agree with this, which is why I think it's not such a bad idea. A smart player with a big tank is perfect for him IMO. Ah well, no big deal either way, I certainly wouldn't recommend selecting matchups based on my interest factor :D.... would be fun though...

I'd wouldn't mind starting Hansen on Buddy. It's not like a Scarlet would ahve gone on him anyway.

Give the kid some experience. Buddy is suited well enough to Hansen, and isn't your Gorilla forward, like a J.Brown. If all goes wrong, there's nothing to say we can't just remove Hansen.

I think he may go on Renouf (really dissapointed Goldie wasn't brought in this week to go 1-1 with him)
If I had my choice however, I'd start him on Roughead. ROughy is still a class player, but won't crucify us as much as a Buddy will. Let Hansen play on Roughie a bit, and give him some good AFL experience.

Buddy would slaughter Hansen, if Laidley plays Hansen on Franklin, Laidley is finished.

Funny thing is that Browny is liable to break his own jaw before anyone else's.

.....and probably still do the finger-pointing celebration thing afterwards.
