I kinda feel sorry for you taking the time to type all this out.
Gee, thanks for adding to the discussion. Don't feel sorry for me, feel sorry for yourself that you couldn't come up with any constructive comments at all. I don't know how fast you type but I wrote the OP in three minutes. I've wasted one minute responding to your meaningless post, which I regret more so than typing the OP.

This is pretty much the way we play 2 day club cricket

Day 1, Team A bats. Have a maximum of 70 overs, then a compulsory declaration. If they get bowled out in 50 overs, Team B gets 90 overs in their first innings.

Wouldn't work in Tests for all the reasons above

Some very harsh posts here, it basically is club cricket rules, it wouldnt really work at test level but it isnt worthy of the response it has received above

Didn't know that, maybe my idea isn't as unique as I first thought. :)

It could easily work still, just have first and second innings points and always get in the 90 overs or whatever first innings. If 100 over remaining after first innings then 50 overs ea. Thing is with most of the rainout days people are talking about the test match is likely to be a draw.

But Tests are fine as they are for now, as i said earlier if creating decks that keep the contest between bat and ball even becomes too difficult then maybe.

i think a lot of club cricket outside of grade is played as TigerCraig describes...

and even grade cricket is essentially the team batting first will declare after day one (96 overs) unless they scored exceedingly slow.
