Strangest thing is that nine are pushing this, nine can't see to get away from test cricket fast enough after it has hit 5:30 as they don't want to upset the viewing habits of their ahem loyal customers.

They might push for this once as a gimmick but i think they would quickly grow tired of having to shelve their other programs in primetime, i don't like the idea of an ashes potentially being decided by a risky untested gimmick just so nine can have some fun and then probably drop support for nigh tests as soon as the ashes are over.

I honestly don't get this whole "it will save test cricket" line being trotted out. Here in AU, test cricket is fine. Our attendances hold up very well. Granted T20 gets massive numbers (both live and media) but that form of the game is a phenomenon that has resonated with the public. And no point going on about it cause it's hear to stay given the numbers it pulls. Just need to make sure our test side remains a very good test team and we will continue to support it. Attending test matches is more than just watching the game for most people. It is a social event...catch up with mates, country folk in town for the game, few beers, eye candy etc... I can't see any of that changing in the foreseeable future.

Around the world yeah I agree test match cricket is struggling. Even in India, test match cricket is poorly attended. But will night time tests fix that. I seriously doubt it.

This is being driven by the broadcasters and is not something the public want changed.

I say go for it :thumbsu:

6 hours play + 1 hour total breaks = 3pm to 10pm AEDT? I think 10pm AEDT is the time ODIs and T20s are usually aimed to end here.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but every cricket country in the world manages to play ODIs and T20s just fine with or without dew? Why would dew be an issue for Test cricket? Same with fog.

However test cricket is a traditional game which has not changed

Test cricket has not changed in 135 years? Right...

I wouldn't mind it at all. It's great being able to come home from work and watch the last few hours of a session, and if it can help boost ratings and interest, so much the better.
