Cameron McCarthy linked to Sydney this morning.

GWS Pick 14 - Cameron McCarthy

Love it!

Why on earth did GWS pick Cameron McCarthy??? It's bizarre - where are they gonna play him? As a small forward? They're going to end up spending several years developing him then having to trade him or Patton or whoever out just when they're about to hit their prime. It's weird is what it is. And then Lobb as well! Their other talls who aren't even in the team much yet like Jaksch, Phillipps etc are going to be looking at this thinking, "Well, that's it for my career at GWS."

They could only be stockpiling to trade for more really high picks in future years. Probably not a bad strategy given the large umber of players of very similer ages they have at the moment.

winners probably saints , don't rate collingwoods picks as much as everyone else think freeman is overrated , brisbane cleaned up aswell , kangas with mcdonald and dumont and hawks with the reward vs risk pick in garlett could be the steal of the draft

Happy with Freo's draft.

We addressed the shortage of KF on our list by taking Apeness.
I think Pearce will be groomed to replace McPharlin in defence so addressed that need also and you can never have too many "Pearces" on your list! With Taberner, Tanner Smith and Moller (and perhaps Hurley) we're set in this area now and may pick up McCarthy in a year or two after getting limited opportunities in the GWS forward line.

Grey is speculative but should have plenty of upside given he's never really given footy 100% in the past.

GWS will keep him warm for 2 years and will go home to freo. Thinking freo will be thereabouts for the next 2 years so there pick will be around the 14-18 mark. Given he likely won't play that much, they may lose out with a worse pick. Silly decision to get him. Unless they know something that we don't.. Like Patton is leaving soon..

Thought Carlton (Giles big slide, Holman slide) and Brisbane (Aish and Lewis Taylor slide) did well from the draft.

Not sure with Essendon's picks. Merrett has a nice left foot and is apparently 'quick', didn't see it live, however not sure about recruiting brothers at the same club. Look how it can end - Chad Cornes got virtually thrown out of Port, and I imagine it would've caused some friction between the coaches and Kane. Fantasia looks to have nice pace and neat skills. Lacks some serious strength though and his height isn't ideal (comfortably under 180cm).

Happy both players can run with it and deliver it with precision, but both will need a couple of preseasons under their belt. Maybe a game or two each next season, zero chance of any further. Looking forward to seeing how they develop in the reserves.

I still don't know why Dumont slid so far. Roo's already have a potential top 4 midfield but they have just strengthened it with two fantastic selections.

So we don't have hundreds of threads about the same thing.

Who won and lost according to BigFooty standards? Who were the bolters? Who were the sliders? Who is still available?

Well since the servers were down half the night, I'm guessing North must have lost.

Really happy with the lions picks. Aish was a steal but with the others i think we nailed on what position players we needed. top stuff.

On Aish going back home, can't see him doing it. Looks a classy responsible bloke, lets hope he is

I think Collingwood's draft is overrated.

Freeman at #10 wasn't the best pick in my opinion, and people seem to think Marsh is a steal, but I think the reason he went so late is because he's very very raw, and it's unlikely someone like him will come good.

Extremely surprised none of Templeton, Conlon or Cavarra got drafted. Tis a shame we won't be using our rookie picks.

Think Brisbane have done really well at first glance. GWS are just trolling everyone now.

I was elated when Geelong picked Lang and then Freo Appeness, which cleared the way for Acres to get to us. No guarantees that he'll be better than those two or anyone else, but shit he looks and sounds good. Have wanted Billings since I saw him play at the champs and also liked Dunstan a lot.

He finished the year with a bang. Pretty exciting player to watch. Any pick at 58 is speculative, but would be worth giving a chance and seeing how he goes. I think Pearce was more speculative than Grey. Pearce has potentially more upside, but Grey has shown more and will take less time to develop. So happy they both got picked up though :thumbsu:

People who are saying Collingwood won the draft are delusional. Scharenberg and Langdon are good picks for where they were picked, Freeman I'm not sold on (as are a few others) and Marsh is extremely raw. Brisbane did well, as did Carlton. GWS did well as expected.

Hope Cavarra and Battersby get rookied.
