Think the clubs that did very well were the Saints and North.
Saints gained three super midfield talents, justifying their offseason trading in my eyes.
North did fantastic to snag Dumont, refraining from the desire to go needs and get a small forward. Only issue is now they may have too many good mids (although you can never have enough midfielders).
Lions, I think won the night by doing the best with what they had. Aish will be a star and Taylor was the biggest slider imo. Filled defensive spots with some top talent; along with the biggest LOL moment when they chose McStay. Lets hope he does for their sake.
GWS notably did well for obvious reasons but I'm convinced they only picked McCarthy at 14 to troll the rest of the comp, safeguarding all the KPFs to ensure they get offered first round picks for a few years as they sell them off to the highest bidders. Sucks for the kids though. Trade period in next few years will be interesting, thats for sure.
Other clubs I thought did well (all clubs will be happy with their picks - noone would admit to not having a great night):
Carlton - Got Cripps as expected, who we really rate; Giles is a huge get as the best KPD in the draft. 39 is a big win. Holman at 51 is great drafting, too.
Pies - Scharenberg over Aish is a huge call, but Scharenberg will be a great player so was a low risk pick. Freeman great, too but overrated at that position - time will tell. Marsh maybe should've been rookied but they'll be happy with him that late. Not sure about Pies 'winning' the draft, but they did well as anyone would with picks 6 + 10.
Sydney - Did very well to get Jones and the young Hewett with their first two. Nankervis another who I think will be a player - one of the highest SC averages in the draft... look forward to his debut (perhaps in early 2014). Aliir Aliir is a great story, too - well done Swans.
West Coast - Got Sheed at #11, justifying their trade strategy. Also pulled in a few more WA boys and the highly rated Karpany - well done Coasters.
Crows - Crouch at 23 is about right and will thrive next to his big bro. Knight is a great get at #48, too.
Clubs that perhaps didn't do as well on the surface via confusing picks:
Freo - McCarthy being taken at 14 would've pissed them off to no end, but Apeness is a solid backup. Pearce is rated by many and two big talls with their first two picks is a big call. Time will tell.
Suns - Kolo was the right call, but surprised his brother wasn't drafted as many thought. Leslie was a headscratcher given Lobb was there; also - Lemmens was a big bolter, though they obviously liked him so who are we to say they didn't get who they wanted.
Verdict is out for:
Dogs - big risk on Bontempelli. If their dream for him to become Pendles-MKII comes to fruition, his #4 tag will be worth it. If not, they'll spend years wondering why they didn't just take Scharenberg or Aish.
Tigers - Lennon will be a great player at AFL level, but 2 x mature players in Gordon and Lloyd were interesting. Preparing for their premiership window perhaps?
Port - Impey, Harvey and DBJ. Not bad but I just get excited for them - Port fans may be a bit more optimistic however.
Dons - Got who they wanted at 26 in younger Merrett, Zak plus Fantasia... might go for a ruck in the rookie draft.
Anyone want to add/argue?
