Just caught up. That was some torrid reading. It was obvious the club was prepared to let most of the nga and f/s players go if they got bid on.
You might disagree with the call but it's not a f/up, it's what they planned.
They'll be judged on results over the next couple of years not tonight.

Took a Victorian wingman who did his ACL (I'm for the pick, just adding more info) at pick 29, traded our pick 34 or whatever it was to the Hawks for pick 50 something and a couple of future thirds. Then used the points from the pick 50 to match the bid for Williams.

I’d like to remind everyone that there’s to be no criticism at all, because some posters find it boring. Not only that but our list and drafting team don’t make mistakes.

Let’s just make this a thread of endless optimism, with plenty of backslapping and applause for the great job Matt, Duane and the team are doing. A little bit of Kumbaya singing would be lovely too.

Again - Cripps could’ve been rookied and it made zero impact on Mini’s ability to utilise him.

Sure he could've.

Maybe Massey told him he was fine with 5 spots?

Maybe he wanted the extra rookie list up his sleeve so we only make a one year commitment to a new player instead of 2 years?

Maybe Jamie Maddocks had input into the exact number of young vs senior players he thinks is the right balance for development purposes.

Maybe Gepp said he'd rig Clarke's car with a bomb if he didn't guarantee Cripps one last year on the senior list?

We'll never know, other than what's public.

We took a random with our natural second round pick and didn’t leave ourselves room to match bids for 2 out of our 3 restricted players because Cripps wasn’t moved to the rookie list and Barnett wasn’t delisted

If we got more talented players at the expense of our NGAs then I don't have an issue with that.

The question is, is Sam Allen better than Charlie Banfield?

A pick on potential at 29 which has been reasonably well received.

Choosing to match Williams and due to the decisions made pre draft (re the list), couldn’t match for Banfield.

Wanted 2/3 at least, so disappointing, but not moving the needle for me into full blown derangement.

When you are in the position we're in, you need to make quality decisions. I don't know enough about Koby Evans to be as disappointed as many here, but I'll watch his career with interest. Not being able to match a bid on a Father Son player with good WAFL Colts form due to list management is a seriously bad look. And making a 2026 second round pick disappear into thin air because we hoped (wrongly) that Gold Coast wouldn't match a bid on Addinsall is terrible.

I hope the five lads we've drafted all have great Eagles careers and wind up playing in a premiership or two for us. But it's hard to conclude right now that we've maximised our chances from this critically important draft. I hope this draft looks better in hindsight than it does right now.

No idea, I'd prefer to see how their career unfold before I combust into flame. I'm for the Allen pick, btw, I was just adding a little more info.

All I see from the mock drafts before today is that he's highly rated but did his knee so clubs may be wary of that.

But as everything goes, I'll have a little more faith in guys who's full time job it is to identify talent over someone on a message board who see's a premiership players surname and creams their pants. And if they suck at their job? Then you fire them and bring new people in.

We just lived through a one win season, I'm beyond getting mad or annoyed at these kinds of things.
