Good to see this new(ish) list management team is continuing the proud tradition of thinking they're the smartest blokes in the room only to get outwitted time and again.
Also getting pretty sick of the happy clappers defending every decision the club makes like we're not currently one of the worst performing teams in AFL history and anyone who doesn't agree with what we do is "melting".

The bad decision, in 20/20 hindsight, was getting Owies in to begin with but he's just come off a 30+ goal season and was basically free.

Barnett should've been given 2 year, not 2 but that was the old mob.

I've said numerous times I thought Cripps should've been rookies/retired but that's clearly not part of their plan so I'll just have to live with it

Owies was an obviously terrible decision at the time. But we must defer to the judgement of those that made that decision

A curious decision, I agree. Clearly it was publicly thought they wouldn't match a player they had zero need for and probably won't ever play a senior AFL game for GC for years, if at all, but they were wrong.

Stiff shit, it sucks, we move on.

I think most agree that this scenario played out because of poor list management. Most clubs have been busy delisting players, ready to rookie them. While wce have been too busy kissing their own backsides that they managed to fleece some extra rookie spots.

The best thing you can do when you realise you have made a mistake (i.e. Owies and Barnett) is to recognise and admit it quickly and then cut your losses and clean up the mess. The worst thing you can is refuse to cut your losses because it involves admitting to yourself, and implicitly to others, that you made a mistake and you will have to endure a loss of face.
