The AFL is on the edge of not coming back

'A leading neuroscientist says former Australian footballers will be in for a “confronting” shock when they have their brains analysed by a new app that can detect the damage done by concussions.'

& this is soccer, however it applies to all forms of footy.

'It comes as Professional Footballers Australia plans to lobby Football Australia to have better concussion management and detection protocols included as part of their future CBA.

The app will be used to test the brain function of past players at the PFA annual testing day in Melbourne on Friday.

It will be the first time the brain health of players has been included in the testing process.

BioEye takes just 60 seconds to get a snapshot of brain function.
Dr Joanne Fielding, who has more than 20 years experience in the neuroscience field, is the Chief Science Officer at BioEye.

We’ve had proven results in a trial that we ran last year with the AFL where we showed that using simple metrics of movement, looking at smooth pursuit eye movements and following a moving target with the eyes and looking at pupil reflex – we could identify everyone who has had a concussion,” Dr Fielding said.

“Which is amazing for a smart phone application.”
How long until the Header is banned in soccer?

Most fans are actually in favour of horrific tackles being taken out of the sport.

There are plenty of things the AFL doesn't listen about but thuggery isn't one of them.

Horrific tackles can you actually show me some examples of Horrific tackles.

The game and some fans of it, have become softer then butter on a hot summers day...

It is.

If you get what you want and they dial these suspensions back and let everyone continue to tackle blokes heads into the ground, will these people you speak of including yourself be happy to fund the multimillion dollar concussion lawsuits?

Would you be happy to chip in say $10,000 or $20,000 towards those, so that they can keep the game just the way you like it?

So what's boxing, mma and muay thai going to do?

Keep in mind they are all contact sports just like aussie rules is a contact sport.

Not to mention that one of the aims of those sports is to knock your opponent out with a forceful head punch or kick.

Scoring involves trying to inflict purposeful physical harm on your opponent.

The head is being hit and concussions are happening causing brain damage in those sports, AFL has both a physical tackle and once great bump as core parts of the game which lead to injury to heads and bodies.

Both sports have risks of injury due to the physical nature of them, people are arguing it's ok no incumbent on the AFL to neuter and bastardise its contact laws but not other contact sports.

When you sign up to play Aussie rules you know there are risks involved, just like signing up to fight.
Do they think that if the AFL left the game alone from the 2000s that either kids or men would stop playing?
No! they'd chose to keep playing despite weighing up the risks that may occur for "some" people.
