My interpretation is that the on field umpire was satisfied there was an edge but was unsure if it had carried- hence umpire referral. There is insufficient evidence on snicko to overturn the umpires soft call of “edge present” (and watching live there was a clear sound)

What? Carey's decision showed a noise two frames before the ball had even reached the bat. This one showed a clear sound the immediate frame after the ball passes the bat. The Smith decision is crystal clear as it has been for years.
