WCL Division 3 in Uganda begins tonight.
Uganda and Canada drop from Div 2, USA and Oman up from Div 4, Singapore and Malaysia stayed in Div 3 last time.
Surely the two teams that dropped from Div 2 would be favourites to go straight back up again.

Afghanistan have a tour of West Indies coming up. 3T20Is, 3ODIs, they might be a sneaky chance of taking the ODIs.

USA seems to have been a mess for years with multiple bodies claiming to be "the" body. If ICC has made that threat more open, its no surprise.

The second game was no better from the looks of it.
That said, T20 is arguably the West Indies stronger format and 50 over is Afghanistan's. So they may be more compeitive later in the tour.
Both Ireland and Afghanistan haven't done much in recent times with a rumour of a Test status decision soon. Short term results should have no impact on a long term call like that, but its likely they will.

Maybe he just looks older than he is? I've known Afghanis that look more mature than their age suggests.

It grates me that every discussion on Rashid Khan involves folks complaining about his appearance relative to his age. It's not impossible that he is a few years older than his recorded age but I doubt he'd be any older than 22-23.

His actual age doesn't really matter, because it's not age group cricket. It's just funny that he looks a lot older than he is claimed to be, that's all.

Scotland register their first win against a full member, beating Zimbabwe last night.

They were in a winning position in the second game before throwing it away.
I'm not sure this says all that much about Scotland, who are probably 3rd or 4th among Associates, but it speaks volumes about Zimbabwe's woes.

At this stage it looks as though two of West Indies, Afghanistan and Ireland will make it to the WC (my guess is Ireland miss but among those three its anyone's really).
An Associate will qualify ahead of Zimbabwe.

Whether an Associate will beat Zimbabwe to claim Test status is another question, but I'd back Afghanistan to do it despite the lack of multiday cricket (one Intercontinental game every few months, normally against significantly inferior opponents, isn't much of a lead up).

Zimbabwe a full member...

I mean, I have a full member, but it's also woefully inadequate

As for the World Cup, I seriously hope West Indies find a way to miss. I'd love it if the 10 team event featured 2 associates

If nothing else it would show the total inadequacy of a ten team WC. The big problem is it could (remote but realistic chance) trigger the dissolution of the WICB. They don't make money from Tests; if they don't make a WC, some of the larger Carribean nations might prefer to go it alone and focus on T20. With 16 yams, Jamaica for example might figure they can make that on their own.

Honestly, I would not be totally against it. Sure, the history of the West Indies gets lost a bit, but let's say in your example, Jamaica go it alone, and work their way to Test status, I can see them recruiting Test quality players from the other Caribbean nations anyway

I'd like to know the logic behind a 13 team ODI championship. One of Scotland and the Netherlands is going to miss out.

I recall making a thread about this very idea. I'm all for it.

Thing is the amount of political crap the windies go through now, I think if they all went at it alone you would see more good cricketers playing at the highest level.

I'm basing this on individual countries not being as bone headed administration wise.

Of course it could go the other way and they just become 20-20 specialist nations.

Definitely the latter, there is no money in being anything else. And that would quickly fade away, the Carribean would almost certainly be lost to the game within a generation (there's a risk of that already).

Certasinly no individual nation would gain Test status, its not like the 1950s-80s where natural skill alone could overcome the lack of funds and development programs. And with the IPL already draining away all the top players during the season, that could only get worse without a ListA/FC/Test/ODI/T20I home season to speak of. The CPL would survive for a while and nothing else. As for the smaller nations which make up the West Indies, forget them even taking part in the WCL should West Indies dissolve.

edit: The other thing which I haven't seen mentioned on here since it happened (but was metioned previously as likely) is that the USACA has been expelled from the ICC. Hopefully a backwards step before going forward, USA and competitng entities have been a problem for a long time; but not a good sign.
