I’m not Gearys biggest fan, he’s had a few great games this year though in the forward line. Anyway, all that aside, can anyone think of any club scandals we’ve had since he took over as captain? I guess you might count the Carlisle/captain cuck bit where the club threw Jake under the bus... But aside from that, as far as I can tell we’ve been scandal free since Gears became captain.

Just something I noticed, maybe it’s unrelated. Worth noting, though. Club culture seems to be in its best spot in a very long time.

We have been turning over massive amounts of players and chose choir boys. Probably more to do with that. Collingwood players everyone know. Saints youth are nobodies. Harder to be a flog when you don't have a profile.

Gears probably should not have played against the Cats - but I would keep him this week to do a job on Saad. This is the type of player he needs to lock down on, possibly Witherden the week after.

We will get him to 200 - they wont be gifted, but he will get there.

Geary is captain. He will play unless managed. They won’t drop the captain. It doesn’t matter whether you agree or not it won’t happen. Should it happen? Well that’s a different discussion.

Tom Stewart is an absolute star of the competition who hands most players who come up against him their arse. Geary was outgunned physically and was at the mercy of the ball coming into F50 in a manner that Stewart ate up with little trouble. To be honest it was a very ordinary match up for Ratts to go with.

I'm no massive Geary fan but he's been on a hiding to nothing with none of the younger blokes stepping up to lead the club. Look at our leadership group over the last 3-4 years... surely in that time someone should have been able to combine on field performance with their supposed great leadership to overtake Geary. To be honest, I'm a bit nervous about murmurs that some of these blokes are still upset with strong feedback from blokes like Geary & Henners.

I have no doubt that we'll have a new captain to lead the club in 2021 but some of the absolute drivel on here is astounding.

We don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors and who the players are who are leaders, but you can’t tell me we couldn’t get co-captains out of two of Steele, Billings, Marshall, Wilkie, Membrey or Howard.

I don’t believe it should just be passed on to Ross. We need a new generation.

I don't see Marshall ever being captain material. He isn't great in front of cameras and adding the pressure of captain into that isnt a great mix. Just let him continue being the fun, smiley guy rather than adding the serious hat onto him. Membrey would have been a high chance for me at the start of the season, but his poor form this year pushes him down the border. I see Wilkie as a leader around the club but I get the impression he likes being under the radar and being captain would take that away. You can see the leadership in Howard and he would be a great captain, but since the change should happen next off season - has he been around the club long enough to warrant going straight to Captain? I don't think he has.

Don't mind Steele + Howard. The latter might need another year in the RWB first, unless something special happens this year.

Agree with you, Marshall wouldn’t be my first choice, seems like a big, gangly giraffe, however Billings used to be terrible in front of the camera early days and has improved a fortune.

Without knowing any inner workings in the club, JB and Steele seem to stand out for me.
Dougs and his competitive streak could also be a good choice. Wilkie comes across as really quiet, but who honestly knows. I just don’t like the idea of wooing someone across to the club with the promise of the captaincy.

If Geary was to retire at the end of this season Ryder could be a solid option as captain for 2021.
