Another really poor performance.

Just all over the shop defensively. We cant keep asking our forwards to score 4 goals to win us games. No idea when or if we can turn this corner. Right now it's not about the title, that ship has sailed, it's about trying to get into the top four otherwise and small chance at Bellingham is gone.

We're really going to struggle for top 4 aren't we? We just aren't gelling in the forward half of the field and making mistakes down back is always a recipe for disaster.

Felt in the past that our pieces were largely interchangeable

Could rotate personnel up front, midfield or down back and there'd be little drop off

Whereas now we're extremely reliant on the talent of individuals - Thiago and Luis Diaz in particular. Things don't click unless they're initiating

Whereas I feel the midfield is the biggest part of the problem atm
I wonder if part of our defence's success previously have been that teams feared us?

Worried about committing too many players forward or pushing for a goal too much because peak Mo, Mane, Firmino at the other end would burn them on the counter.

Now that fear is gone and newly emboldened teams have found that by attacking us it exposes some weaknesses. Those weaknesses may have always been there but are being tested more thoroughly now

2 years ago we would have been pressing the defenders and had them pinned back another 10-15m. It was rare that we would let them pass the ball around like that so close to the halfway line with little pressure on them.
