Id say the biggest scandal was the producers letting someone lodge a "fake" bid for Jimmy and Tam's house, and the said "buyer" couldn't stump up the cash. But seeing this was a stuff up by the show itself it was a little hush hush.
A lot has been written about this post that season, and I don't think you have all the facts. All bidders have to prove that they have at least enough to cover the deposit by submitting bank statements when registering to become a bidder and proof of loan approval (if the home is being purchased via a mortgage) and there's usually a 30-60-90 day payment period in real estate sales set in the contract, so the eventual buyer has to pay a 10% deposit after the auction to show their intention to buy and take the property off the market.

The woman who made the phony bids had done everything right up to that point, and the "producers" had no reason to suspect she was a sham bidder, just seeking attention. It was not the fault of the "producers," and they haven't tried to cover anything up. It turned out the woman who made those fake bids had some huge mental health issues, and that contributed to what she did. They actually began to realize things weren't right when the woman had not paid the deposit well after it was due. And that led them to discover that she was a sham bidder the whole time.

I'm sorry but Aido waited until the tilers were done to tell them to rip it all up due to the stuff they used backing the tiles wasnt what they wanted. That tiler looked gutted. Knock off time on Friday too.
I saw a post on Reddit that showed the actual instructions for that D2 tile glue, and it clearly says not to use it on waterproof membranes in showers or use it with non-porous tiles. I think you're possibly jumping to conclusions; it may have been that they didn't become aware of it until just before Aido came around. But it surprises me that when the tilers did site induction that they didn't mention the preferred type of glue they want used on The Block. But I don't know for sure what went on there.

While yes stuff like this is manipulated to create drama, who knows when the glue arrived on site and secondly if the contestants trades double checked every material for each house they would be making 100's of more decision a day than they already doing.

You have to remember that using that D2 glue is OK where there is no waterproof membrane under it, like on tiled walls. But not OK where there is a waterproof membrane. IIRC, Dan questioned the hairdresser guys at one stage because they used it too, but not in their wet areas, so he was OK with that.

Dan told Han she wouldn't finish the bathroom, and she just blew him off, again. I think her biggest problem is that she doesn't listen to people and overestimates her own abilities.

Anyway, the bathrooms overall were pretty boring to me, but I guess they do represent the current styles. House 5 was clearly the best one, so good on them.

I just don't get how Marty can give H1 a 7.5 for a nice, completed bathroom, and then give H2 a 6.5 for an incomplete bathroom. That seemed so dumb to me. I think the judges all decided or were told to give H2 6.5 for their incomplete bathroom. They should have been given a 5.

Then Darren said H5's bathroom took all the elements of the previous bathrooms that worked and did them to perfection, yet gave them the same score as H4. I suspect they were told not to give anyone 10s in the first week.

The contestants are a little too bland this year, you do need some contestants that make it interesting to watch, just don't need to be complete assholes.

Perth girls were told curves were not right for the house build, and they totally ignore it, and not having carpet in bedrooms in Melbourne, especially Daylesford is just dumb, going to be a lot of sooking in that house.

I have watched every episode over the years but I am struggling to get into it this season. I really want to like it.

I am not exactly sure what it is but I think it's because there is a real lack interesting storylines. How many episodes do they need to spend talking about water proofing.

It does seem a more sanitized version this year, which is not surprising after the blowback they got last year for all the bullying and the cheating scandal. The casting agent who did the Block for many years retired at the end of last season, too. So it seems to me they have cast a safer, but potentially less interesting group of contestants.

Yes you need some characters, but two seasons ago it went too far.

And they certainly have dialed back the characters this year, to the point they are boring.

For sure, I think locking the site overnight and giving them better accommodation in the first few weeks was also to prevent a repeat of the couple that had to leave last year.

It feels like outside getting the water proofing approved there isn't much happening some weeks.

I would also say the nature of the builds, where the houses are all the same and all built this is just a fit out and design required by the contestants. I feel the seasons where demolition was required and more flexibility with the floor plans made it more interesting.

I’ve lived in one home with a wooden fire place in 40 years of renting and owning and can only say that they are the most dirty things to clean and look after. Great for heat, but the rest, getting wood, starting it, keeping it going, and cleaning is the pits
I once rented a place with an open fireplace and all the heat went up the chimney, it was useless.

A house I once owned had a Coonara-type wood heater, and it was fantastic for heating. I agree that they do require some cleaning and maintenance, but seeing those logs burning and feeling that heat always made it worth it to me.

Get a pretend one and get ducted thrown in for all rooms. That joint is freezing in winter.

Come to think of it wats the go with AC because it boils there in summer as well
