May be naive of me, but isn't getting rid of slattery,hille, Mcveigh possibly reimers and one of lonergan/prismall enough for one year? then NLM retires next year, maybe get rid of the second of lonergan/prismall and dyson perhaps, fletcher maybe retires and then perhaps look at getting rid of under performing players?

That above scenario seems to leave us not too exposed, but also not stalled.

I'd be doing 2 (Bags & Lee) rookie upgrades. And look at a 3rd (Dell)

Only removing 5 guys, would be giving us a grand total of 2 live picks (Joe locked in at 1) - only 1 if we get a free agent.

If another club is interested in Lee, well and good. If not, meh.

I wouldn't mind persisting with Dell as a rookie. Think he's shown a thing or two, he's just let himself down in pressure moments now and again.

I'd easily prefer to keep Dell over Lee.

Lee looks great as insurance, but promoting him? Why?

He's shown nothing more than Lonergan, whereas Dell at least fills a potential need with Reimers gone, and Jetta/Davey hot & cold.

lee's two games were better than like 80% of lonergan's 70 odd games so that's something. hell, he once took the ball from a hit out while running and into a bit of space which is something lonergan dreams about. i'd promote him if pushed to, sticking to the whole 'dump the proven duds, stick with the ones who haven't failed yet' theme. ideally we'd leave him on the rookie list though.

No we don't. We need to get rid of guys who can't play or are past it, but otherwise we develop as normal. Fletcher aside we have a very young list, and throwing out solid AFL citizens like NLM, Monfries and Dyson for the sake of it is just stupid.

People say "fast track the kids, don't keep depth" like it's a silver bullet. It's not. We tried it this year - we really tried it this year. Younger players need to develop as they develop, throwing them in the deep end is not how it works. When they're ready and they push the other guys into the 30+ range of the list then it's time to say goodbye, but until then it's time to be sensible.

It's trade, free agency or they stay.

Caddy won't be the messiah, but the difference last night getting Howlett and Myers back shows how terrible our midfield depth is.

Ricky Dyson is 27 in a month, will be in his 10th year next year and has played only 120 games. He has never cemented his spot in the best 22 in his entire career. I cant see this happening in his 10th year. He is just taking the spot of a kid now, if he was 24-25 id say give him a 1year deal, but he isn't.

I bet you a gorilla he is on the list next year.
