Mini-Merrett for mine.

Unless im mistaken its usually the youngest or there abouts that becomes the better brother, see selwood, cloke etc

Kav could be another one, a few seasons in the system now and no sign of his hamstring troubles

my thoughts anyway

Harvey, Power, Everitt, Robran.... There's a clear trend there

Of the unestablished kids, I've got nothing new to add. My view is, in order:

1. Dalgleish: because the combination of blistering speed and quality disposal gives him an immediate ability to make significant contributions in ways that the best 22 has been crying out for. It is always easier to break out when your natural game fills an immediate and significant need in what would be close to a settled 20 (he's supposed to be a genuinely hard worker with a great attitude so that will only help).

2. J Merrett: he's another who fills a need, being a hard working half forward option who can run through the middle. It was a credit to him that he played so much in 2013 but I never thought he did all that much. I can see him having significant impact on games floating around half forward. A bit of extra strength to help him hold marks and at that size and pace he could be a really important player.

3. Kavanagh: has more class than a lot of our inside midfielders. We invested a lot and the plan was always for it to be slow going to build his body and teach him to fill the void left by an injury ravaged senior year in the TAC cup. He learned the defensive side of the game last year which will hold him in good stead. Issue he has is that he's some way down the pecking order. If he plays a lot of footy you can almost guarantee that he'll establish himself (because he is going to have to push players out of the side).

Daniher is in a category of his own really. I can't see us not playing him at every opportunity so on the basis of games played he'll break out. He's supposed to have developed that much in the last few months that he'll get there on merit but the weight of history says it will be very hard for a 203cm bean pole to have a consistent impact on games.

Also think that Ambrose is a genuine smokey on basis that he is physically ready to go and that he will fill a need. My money is on us tiring of a forwardline which includes Bellchambers, Carlisle and Daniner very quickly. I don't care about the marking power, it's too static which makes us too predictable and will cause problems defensively. On recent form it is not that much of a stretch for Fletcher to get a tap on his shoulder which would releases Carlisle back to defence (with Hurley who it seems is going to play as a defender).

Has any more been said or seen about this since Bomber mentioned it?

I feel I'm quite out of the loop, and I'd love to hear if it has developed further.

I see what you did there! Incidentally, my brother had his wedding reception there! Great spot!

Good summation BrunoV, all have there own merits and have a strong case to say they will be 'The man'.

I am a HUGE wrap for Dalgleish, genuinely likeable kid who is prepared to work hard and has some very good attributes he brings to the seniors. The one difficulty is who he will push out of the seniors remembering the only games he were given was due to injury to Dempsey. I personally wouldnt be changing to much of our small defenders (Hibberd, Dempsey, Baguley) as they have showed some very strong form as a deffensive unit.

Jackson Merret seems to be the one who on form (14 games in 2013) is close to forcing his spot in the 21 and consolidating it and making an impact on more games.

We will be a better side when guys like Myers, Hocking, Howlett are pushed out of the side by the next generation of midfielders we have.

Don't have to tell me that the leadership group in not the be all and end all but all indications are that Myers is ripping it up this preseason. Reckon that of the guys who established but who we want/need or are likely to become consistent match winners Myers, Hurley and probably Heppell are the pick of the bunch.

I hope that Melksham is not too far behind (there has been nothing said about him all preseason).

Fletcher. Bloke is all potential, reckon he's primed to bust out this year.

I said it early in the pre season, but reckon Colyer will have a breakout season and lock his place in the 22

Expect something from Ashby this year. Watching him at training the other day and he is gonna be something special.
Yeesh! There's no room! Someone tell him to take a little bit easier and save the massive step forward for 2015. Between him, Dal and Pears (possibly Edwards, Van Unen and Gleeson), what are we going to do? We are running the risk of getting our half back pipes blocked as they all try to come through at once.

He also played at half forward in the VFL last year. We could definitely use another gun half forward.

Colyer's footskills are one of the most overstated issues. He has previously been thrown off the ball with ease, not tackled or harassed opponents and otherwise failed to exert himself physically on contests. He has been basically everything TRB has not wanted in players. I think he hasn't been dealt with as harshly as some because he's supposed to be very hard working.
