I think it's gotten to a point where Demon's fans are spilling their Cale abuse and defence all over this forum, let alone the Melbourne board.

Where is he at? 4th year in the system and not doing nearly as well as his peers from the draft in Kreuzer, Cotchin, Rioli, Palmer, etc.

Obviously as a very awkward body shape, as a skinny, lanky 191cm midfielder. But 4 years in you'd think that would have been sorted out?

Personally feel that he has been the victim of some poor management from our club. Body has been subjected to a few bouts of injury that have limited his preparation over 4 pre-seasons. Really does need to get his fitness right and hone his undeniable talent in an environment safe from injury. Really needs to have a few breakout games, but that will only come after adequate preparation. Also needs to find his position, which I still reckon is as a winger. Can play as a KPF too, but needs to find more mongrel for it. Backline sweeper role just not cutting it.

He has grown a fair bit since getting to the club so that has slowed his ability to build bulk. However he is really starting to stagnate at the MFC.

Best result for all would be if GWS signed him up. We'd get good compo for a young player that went at P4 and has played 50 odd games. Cale gets $ and GWS get F***ed over.

Hear hear. Has stagnated big time. He really has looked disinterested since the start of last year to me.

Let's hope he goes to GWS and we get a 1st rounder for him, or we offer him up in a trade in an attempt to bring JV onto the list a year early.

With the levels of interest he has this year i wouldn't be supprised if he hadn't already signed on with GWS.

Not so sure. Reckon if he had an optimum pre-season he could really turn it up next year. 90% between the ears and he definitely has the smarts, just lacking confidence.

Could regret losing him if it was for anyone less talented (meaning at the time of his drafting). Although a change of scenery would be good for him.

Sorry, couldn't help myself :p

I honestly see little value in Cale. He is playing Joel Macdonald's role but he has very few defensive attributes. There was a passage of play in the first quarter that really summed up Cale Morton, in my opinion.

Ball is kicked long to Jarrad Grant at half forward who is standing under the ball. Cale is running in and is really in a perfect position to impact the contest. He needed to do one of three things:

1) Mark the ball
2) Spoil the ball
3) Do neither but at least knock Grant to ground

What did he do? The usual soft Cale Morton act. He ran past Grant with a fist in the air attempting to spoil, whilst making no body contact. Sure, spoils can be missed sometimes but he needed to at least hit Grant and make a contest. Instead, Morton ran past him, did nothing and Grant was free to run off and deliver the ball inside 50. This may have resulted in a Hall goal, I can't remember, but was still shocking play by Morton yet, unfortunately, was far from surprising.

Needs to work on a few things: most important of which is his attitude, but also his strength and preparation.

At the moment, when he makes a mistake (and he's doing it pretty regularly) he moves on straight away, rather than bottling it up, putting his head down and trying to make amends. He really needs to care more for his teammates and needs to show it.

IF he gets his head right, his other problems could be fixed by a few big preseasons. But his attitude needs to change first. I'd love to give him a few uninterrupted preseasons to really find out if he's got it in him to perform at this level, and I'd also love to see him up forward or on the wing for something approaching a consistant run, but the GWS scenario distorts everything, and now might be the time to jump first and wonder later.

In reality, that 2007 draft is a very poor draft.

Masten, Grant, Myers, Palmer, Henderson, Ebert, Vespermi were all in the first dozen picks and really you would be expecting more from such top picks.

Morton is also on that list. He still will be a solid player so just reprogram him and put some confidence in him. Still will make a great 15-22 player.

2007 Draft

Morton was # 4 ( Kreuzer, Cotchin were 1 and 2 , Masten to West Coast was 3 )

The biggest get I think was Dangerfield to Adelaide at # 10. Imagine him in our side .

Morton is an absolute dud....but how can you pick these things? Hindsight now tells us Morton was an absolute waste at 4. Grossly overated.

...I wonder who actually rates these guys ?

Cyril Rioli went at 12, Harry Taylor at 17, Callan Ward at 19. Along with Keuzer, Cotchin and Grimes (14). Thay'd be the quality of the 2007 draft. Maybe Ben McEvoy, Brad Ebert and Dangerfield as well.
As opposed to the year after (where the entire top ten have been pretty good quality and there are probably 5 out and out stars already) 2007 and 2006 were pretty poor (though Gibbs has started to come good, J Selwood is one of the top 5 players in the game and Riewoldt and Frawley are stars of the prsesent/future)

Patty Dangerfield is so disappointing. The kid is dripping with talent and should be dominanting. Think he still will but he should be now.

As i've stated b4 2008 draft will go down as one of the greats.

Disappointing that 2007 and 2003 draft was so poor.

Cale will be a decent player/role player but a disappointment considering he was 4. These players should be foundation players.

*massive facepalm*

Cyril Rioli? Callan Ward? But who needs these guys when you have the illustrious Cale Morton! Some say he is quicker than the speed of light, others say he is 12 feet tall. Either way, you just know he will dominate like the elite player he clearly is! Rumour has it he tackled the doctor who delivered him to the ground and pinged him for holding the cord.

GWS won't take Cale Morton. Those greedy bastards at GWS can't afford Cale Morton! Experts say he is worth beyond $5 billion a game! Though that shouldn't matter, they could just play Morton on the field by himself and he would surely win them five premierships...in a single season!

I dislike Cale Morton.

I dislike Cale Morton.
but he seems to provide you with a beautiful muse:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Too undervalued to trade at the moment.

I would try a couple of things with Cale.

Firstly, don't let him posess the ball in match simulated training. Only let him block, bump, shepherd, tackle and knock on. He needs to learn the team game.

Secondly, get him on the kicking program Nathan Jones had. He's never going to be elite By foot, but he needs to pierce the ball low. His slow, airy kicks just aren't damaging.

If we can't fix him, we have a Joel Bowfen on our hands.

Morton needs to build his body up. He needs to be settled into a position and left there.
He needs to be at Casey. We need to view him as a late developer ( like Stefan Martin ) , because it seems from the outside looking in he has no confidence in his body's ability to be as physical as he needs to be at AFL level.

Morton was a high draft pick because of his athletic prowess (15.3 beep test at draft camp) and elite kicking skills. Take a look at his 2007 highlights video on YouTube, his kicking was immense. We are seeing neither of these qualities at the moment.

People rave about him being soft, and they aren't totally wrong (he does go when its his turn) but you can't have a team full of Jordie McKenzie's anyway. Morton's role should be to provide gut running, make space and deliver the ball forward. At the moment this isn't happening but he is capable of it.

Tbh I wouldn't trade him, I'd give him one more year to get his act together. Tell him to watch videos of when he was 17 and ask him why he isn't kicking like that anymore. Put a ban on loopy kicks in 2012. And play him on the wing.

I would welcome a player of Bowden's quality, especially if coming from a spud like Morton.

the Morton brothers are all duds. Thats harsh as I think Cale is a good bloke and all but.. yer ...
