Interesting to hear Robert Walls when interviewed last week about this season / our list, made particular mention of 'a lesser known kid by the name of Matt Cotterel' who he thinks will become a 150 /200 game player for the club.

Great thing I like about Cotterell is he doesn’t get beaten 1on1. He either wins or halves the contest.

Sigh. I understand we probably weren't going to go deep into September but this "next year is our year" stuff is brutally wearing.
At least this time there's actual hope for next year based off of evidence this year, as opposed to "Well we finished 18th again, but surely next year we start to improve!"

Not that I'm writing off this year, if we can hold on to top 8 with a litany of top 10 players returning for the last month - 6 weeks of footy maybe we can time a run into finals... If so.. why not believe we can go deep?

Yep. Hate the "next year" thing. Who knows what the future holds. You need to take your chances and capitalise whilst things are going well.

If we had/have a good run with injuries there's no reason we can't go deep into September this year. Just need to cross all our fingers and toes that Harry, Weiters, Pitto and one of Marchy/Gov are good to go for the last month and finals run.

We've given ourself a good base for the 2nd half of the year.. just need some luck now.

Moving into next year though, once again we just need a clean-ish run with injuries.

We've got 2 of the top 5 key forwards in the league.

We've got Weiters who is top 3 key defenders in the league.

Our midfield runs deep now. Cripps and Walsh are both top 10 mids in the comp.

Our top end talent is crazy. With some good foot soldiers and our young guys getting good match experience this year

Hopefully we are setting ourself up for a sustained crack at things.. however like I said... who knows what the future holds. Things can change quickly. Need to capitalise when we get our chance. Time to move from "next year" into "now is our time. Let's get it done"

Going 8-2 sets this season up and gives us some breathing space for events like yesterday and having the bye round also lets us off the hook for a week.

Aside from Weiters, Pitto and McKay I’m not losing too much sleep over any of the others on that injury list and by my calcs all 3 should be back by round 17.

If we can just get a couple wins over that period then we should be in good stead for the rest of the season.

So Jack goes back…..according to GHealey.

Classic robbing Peter to pay Paul situation. If we move JSOS back then we are left with Curnow as our only tall (next tallest forward would prob be Martin in that case at 185cm). We also lose the backup ruckmen to TDK which means Cripps would have to ruck more and we lose our best mid. Weitering replacement just can't come from within the current 22 as we are lacking talls everywhere due to injury. Will have to bring someone in whether it be Kemp or Marchbank (club expecting him to be ready after bye)

Exactly.
Would be madness to rob Peter to pay Paul in this situation.

Have to find the Key Defender from Marchbank, Kemp and some miracle someone mature enough in draft on Wednesday is there for us.

At what point do we have to start to considering moving some of the more injury prone players on (McGovern, McDonald, Cunningham etc)? I feel for them but we can't afford to have this keep happening year after year

Friend texted me Adam Cooney on GUESSEN has just predicted a Melbourne-Carlton Grand Final. Idiot.

Mate, it's never as bad as it seems. On the flip side it's never as good as it seems. See what happens

There’s this kid. Lives in a village where a wise old man lives. The kid has been desperate his whole life to get a horse. Parents finally buy him a horse and he is over the moon. Best thing that ever happened. Everyone is happy for him. Don’t you think it’s amazing wise old man? Wise old man says “we will see”.

Kid rides his horse all the time. But falls off it one day. Breaks his arm. Everyone in the town says how horrible it is. Don’t you think it’s awful this happened to him wise old man? Wise old man says “we will see.”

War breaks out. All the boys and men of the town have to go to war and fight. How lucky is it wise old man that the boy doesn’t have to go to war because his arm is broken??

And the old man says….”we will see.”

Charlie Wilson’s War.

So ‘Carlton related stuff that doesn’t need its own thread’

My question is after losing to Collingwood and now that the dust has settled. What are your thoughts on the ‘they know we are coming’ slogan from 2009? As it’s over 10 years now and slowly approaching 15. Do you think it should have been ‘the know we are coming at a snail pace’ or something more aligned to the growth at Carlton?
My thoughts are that marketing slogans are meant to get people talking and create interest. That years slogan was clearly one of the best as people are still triggered by it 13 years later.

Yeah, I would like to see a slogan like "We beat a couple of teams in the 8, but still missed finals, while we are still bottoming out once we lose our ageing players"
