Found the podcast to be great listening and a good insight into Simmo. Couple of things I found interesting/funny was that;

- Marchbank is in the best runners at the club, or at least runs in the top group
- Simmo would know that Heath Scotland had had a big night cause he would turn up to training on Monday and absolutely flog himself on the training track

theres a fair bit there that involves different regimes, Jacksch was pre SOS.

Stocker left the hub last year, he’s not Sydney Stack.

There’s been a bit of talk of him this year in the reserves. Sounds like he’s going alright, seems to have about 25 and a goal or two most weeks. Reckon he’s a chance to get back into the side soon.
SOS was the guy who traded Jaksch to us! Karma came back and bit him on the bum.

I don't want to see his banana!

I do.

In all seriousness, if I can return to the Kade vs Eddie/Murph being delisted debate.

We don't have a shortage of small defenders. We do have a shortage of small forwards (at least, we thought we did at the end of last year, now I'm not so sure).

As good as Kade still was last year, he was clearly declining every year. How much more would he have declined this year?

Kade had already made the move from the wing to the backline in the twilight of his career. There was nowhere else for him to go.

Murphy, on the other hand, has only just moved to the forward line full time this year, and he's improving every game. Give the bloke a chance to get used to his new role. For all we know, we could get another 3 20+ goal seasons out of him.

Get around the ex-skipper people!

He was even laying tackles against GC!

I'm not optimistic about him lasting long as a small forward. He's uncertain taking shots he'd have nailed two three years ago, he constantly wants to pass, and yes his inability to tackle is starting to have an effect if it wasn't already.

I hope he can turn it around, but early days it doesn't look as good as it could. He looks exactly like Dow does ahead of the ball; fighting with himself to hang off the back of things instead of going in and getting it.

I’ll admit to owning one pair. I’ve looked at the label previously, and the amount of bamboo in them is almost non existent. Maybe 5%? I can’t quite remember. But the bamboo is clearly just a marketing gimmick.
One day some unprocessed bamboo is going to slip through quality checks & some poor unsuspecting bloke is going to put on a pair of bamboo undies & suddenly find himself suffering excruciating pain. I'm not prepared to take the risk.

Reminds me of a Groucho Marx joke.

I just shot a panda in my undies. What it was doing there I’ll never know.

Pretty obvious.

Teams are made up of individuals and each individual has to do their job in order to make the job of their team mates doable and allow for match winners to have a chance at doing that too. Teague carries very weak links - and this has compounding negative effects on the 'group' - I see it in every game. "Decline "is an interesting word - I have had to manage sustainable performance in my teams for decades - I am very very sensitive to small twitch indicators - maybe too sensitive. In my experience as soon as a level of comfort is achieved - you are in serious danger - because every human being aspires to comfort - it is just the way we are made. the way I manage for this is to reset each quarter. Basically everyone knows I don't give a flying *uck about the past quarter/year/years- and I measure and reward - the now with just a tad of breathing room. It is a fair and sustainable system and my employees love it - because it is fair and transparent. I cut underperformers ruthlessly - no ifs buts or maybes - all fact-based - underperform and you get a tight reign under perform again and you are OUT of the A team.

Good managers make sure that comfort is never there - knowing how to push hard without offending is what good management is - that and being true to your word.

My favourite coaches are quick to dump players out of form - for the sake of the team and for the sake of being fair to alternative players in good form. The doggies coach is the best at it and I think even Hardwick is good at this aspect as well.

these blokes keep their best 22 'fresh' with promotion demotion of role players - always getting the best out of younger players - Hinkley has woken up to this as well.

I think Teague is way too conservative - with the wrong things.

Will drag it here, so we don't clog up the preview thread

I too look at twitch indicators, but not what they might deliver in the now, more in the future. While most solid leaders can address areas of concern in the now, I prefer those that look at the strong aspects of the business to determine if they will continue to perform well in the future. You don't want to "fix" one thing in the now, only to have concerns later with previously strong areas. It's like plugging holes in the damn when they occur

In your industry, strategies and outcomes are, generally, in a condensed timeframe, underperforming people/situations have ample time to show their strengths, they have already reached their prime level (educated, developed, experienced, etc), so strong outcomes are expected, non negotiable.

This industry and our situation is different, we have completed phase 1 (strip and rebuild) and are nearing the end of phase 2 (actioning on what was stripped and rebuiit, (building continuity, cohesion in people and structures/gameplan). The next phase can only begin when this group is about to hit that "prime level"

Interesting you mention Hardwick, it took him 7 years (rebuild 10 years) to reach a level where most were satisfied with the outcomes. Prior to that they where calling for blood, his head and the players he persisted with, despite the poor outcomes, until that stage of success

There are 2 types of coaches, structure and process, the likes of Clarkson, Lyons, etc and those that manage people within those structures, Beveridge, Teague, etc. Both can coexist within the industry as long as they are transparent and honest about the strategies and outcomes

As the saying goes, this isn't a sprint, it's a marathon and we have only just gone past half way

Yep I agree with your thinking - I'm just questioning whether Teague is up to keeping positive momentum and whether the Club is putting enough thought into continual over all culture and development.

btw - insightful comment on the difference between competing against the market and other competitors doing same - and a football Club. Still the management principles are the same - the time frame is different as you say.

Competition is now getting very close- the notion of low middling and finals sides is not too spread as it used to be. Cant see any 'easy games' this year.

Apparently we need to beat the premiership favourite before Damien Barrett will believe we've improved.

Makes sense.

in a grand final I suppose .....

shall we take a look at docs running patterns?
Speaking of Doc I think the weekend was the best he's moved since being back. Maybe it's because I was at the ground it gave me a different perspective, but to me he was suddenly flying for marks and floating in front of contests. He hasn't done that since he's been back and he did it a handful of times on the weekend which was excellent to see.

I even saw him on the wing running in a straight line and then sidestep between 2 opponents icon_eek.gif

So he's getting better. We shouldn't be surprised he's still recovering tbf, people who've done 1 knee say it takes a further 12 months before you really have any confidence in the knee, well coming off 2 consecutive injuries I think let him keep finding his feet, which he is.
