It's terrible isn't it.

Not sure why they even bothered with the logo outline on the front. Just give everyone a plain white singlet and shorts and call it done. /s
We are the NAVY BLUES!

/the end
I would like the club to be very strong on this and tell the AFL we are not playing in a clash jumper and will be in navy blue each week.

If there is deemed to be a clash then the opposition can change.

Oh yeah because when we are away and play a team that is at home, they should be made to change into their clash kit?

i think every club should have a clash or away jumper.

it's good marketing, good for sales and i don't think it dilutes the brand

Completely agree. Too many AFL supporters get tied up in the "but, tradition..." argument. So amateur-hour. You don't see ManU sooking when they have to wear an alternative strip at Anfield. I'd go further and say all teams should have 3 strips, just like EPL teams do.

But all-white is rubbish.

Navy logo/silver > navy logo/sky blue > navy logo/yellow > navy logo/white

They won all their premierships without McGovern, Harry taylor, Harris Andrews, Hurn, Weitering, Talia...

Oh wait you mean the guy who played loose as sh*t and relied on grimes, Astbury and insane midfield pressure to make up for his inability to actually play tight?

I understand your point. I just find it offensive to key defenders to call a loose interceptor the best defender of the era.

From 2013:2018 inclusive NO ONE in the AFL was in more defensive one v ones than Rance.

No one. Statistical fact.

I mean by your reckoning he must be the unluckiest footballer in history.

“Hey Grimesy where are ya? Grimesy? You’re supposed to save me. Why am I on my own more than any one else? I’m supposed to be all loosely goosey”

I mean how unlucky? For 6 years. Like not the odd game here or there. In a 6 year ERA he was left deserted one on one more than any other player.

Statistics and damned lies…

Unaccountable and contests are not mutually exclusive. When Rance, or any other defender impacts a contest between two or more other players from a “loose” start, it is still a contested possession or contest. Similarly making a one on one from a non contact position likewise. To argue he was accountable on the back of statistics tallying contests is just wrong. Two blokes grapple, engage, compete and a third player impacts the contest unencumbered and he is still a part of that statistical contest.

Astbury and others played more accountable roles, allowing Rance to do what he did very well. The argument excluding Rance from greatest key defender arguments is valid SOS, Scarlett, Dench and others all played as accountable key defenders. The game has changed, no doubt Rance played an amount of accountable defence, but this is a different era and a different role. He should categorically not be in that conversation.

I don't buy into the Rance hate.

What I saw was an extremely skilled defender, both one-on-one AND intercepting. I saw matches where he was basically a one-man defensive wall.

OK, so he didn't always get the opposition's most dangerous fwd. And he didn't play full lockdown FB. Yes, he zoned off quite a bit but he was given license to roam. IMO he produced the type of football we would want/expect from Weitering if he was let off the chain.

He was every bit the best defender of that era (alongside Jeremy McGovern and Luke McPharlin who I think was grossly underrated).

He was in a lot, sure, he wasn't the best in those situations either. Grimes and Astbury again, had better win rates 1 on 1 as did players elsewhere. Hell even Lynden Dunn had a better 1 on 1 win rate for his pies years.

By deserted do you mean slow high entries that are under immense pressure from an insanely high tackling midfield? In a structure that just didn't allow anything more than bombs deep very often? Rance got favourable '1 on 1' stats by being loose deep and floating into constests.

He was extremely gifted but he's not the best ever nor the best of the era.

McGoverns contested win rate is just something else, though. His intercepting is brilliant too.

I'd take SOS, not only one of the best KPD's, also a very capable key forward
I thought we were discussing recent blokes - SOS of course - but the best all round defender I've seen on replays is the flying carpet.

Just stop. Seriously. Stop. Do some real research. You’re wrong again and again and again.

Don’t make me waste any more time on this. Walk away.

No one called him the best ever. That’s called straw man debating. Best of his era. That was the comment. You act like it was some wildly extravagant claim.

Just stop it.
