Finals are separate and only count towards the final finishing position for competing clubs, which then aligns with the final National Draft selection positions…

(the reason I asked was I had a bet with a woods supporter at the start of the season we'd finish higher, and as I stumped up in grand final week we were still arguing as to when that bet was decided).

Taking this with a huge grain of salt.
Firstly, O'Brien didn't play seniors at all in the second half of season and would have been provided with regularly feedback from coaches - any follower of Carlton knew where he was sitting on the list pecking order, so surely he did as well?
Secondly, his management and the club were in conversation about contract status and the potential options ... clearly they were talking because his management leaked the news to LOB of his delisting prior to the exit meeting.
Have to say, if LOB's view (or ignorance) is accurate ... it makes me feel a little uncomfortable about communication. Suspect we have provided a nice financial settlement to smooth the waters.

we are literally obligated to, unless a mutual settlement is agreed.
