Dermott Brereton gave Kemp a massive pump up for his forward craft on SEN this morning
I’m going to make a big observation about Kempy.
The way he attacks the ball in the air reminds me of Kenny Hunter.
I just hope he’s allowed to play with his instincts and is given a red hot go.

Have the Pies nuffies paid off the media to rip into Charlie all off season or something lmao? FIGJAM ripping into him, Derwayne comparing him to Max King...

Is there a new strand of psychedelic weed that's hit the streets of Melbourne or something??
Haven’t been watching much footy shows so haven’t seen any of that but I know there is still room for improvement in Charlie. He’s a freak but bit of discipline and composure at critical times is needed.

Of course there is but the way media and opposition carry on about him sometimes is ridiculous. He is clearly a Top 3 key forward in the game and it is not up for debate. Anyone who says otherwise clearly has no clue.

Room for improvement yes, but they act as if he's turned into Josh Schache or something lmao.

Fully fit he's still easily the best KPF in the game.

For mine, despite some “cavalier” moments Charlie has to maintain the number one mantle.

Hogan, Larkey and our own Harry McKay in the convo for top three.

Naughton and Allen honourably mentions along with the King boys and perhaps Waterman. Treacy undersold a bit on the Eastern seaboard, Ugle-Hagan if he gets his head right. Big boys Thilthorpe and Neale on the rise. Darcy the big watch if stays forward at the kennel. A number of talented kids on the rise including Cadman, Dear and Caddy. Suppose we give an honourable mention to old man Tom Lynch if he can stay on the park.

There are some good prospects around at the moment, but Charlie has there measure for now.

Edit: Forgot Cameron (faux Jezza)

Bucks wasn’t disrespectful. I’ve been critical of Charlie for his lack of effort at times and lazy play too so I don’t disagree with him. And we can’t forget that we have invested really bloody heavily in him - it’s the path we’ve chosen to take with our list (one I’m not sure I agree with) but we need our highest-paid players playing at a high level more consistently if we’re to be any chance of winning a flag. Through injury/attitude or whatever else, too many are not returning positively on investment.

I still reckon the fastest I saw Charlie run last year, literally, was to the bench to avoid a 6-6-6 penalty.

Has the potential to be top 2 (still have Jez #1) but needs to put in consistently, to work harder to find space, to stay involved, to do the basics well etc.

Guardian Ladder Predictions - this idiot has us ranked 14th. Seriously? I had to LOL...hard. I rate the Guardian for its news content and the odd Jonathan Wilson article about round ball, but I reckon this bloke spends more time reading Das Kapital than watching footy.
Last year’s version had Sydney 13th, Brisbane 7th and St Kilda 4th…

A bit more L. Ron Hubbard than Karl Marx, I’d say.

The gruniad does round ball journalism very well.

Yep I agreed 100% with him.
We rarely get 4 quarters out of the guys: they always have 10 minutes where they switch off and leave us tearing out our hair.
And Charlie for all his ridiculous talents, spends a lot of time wrestling with bigger guys and either hoping to bring it to ground (where we don't have any smalls crumbing ffs) or get paid a free. But whether he stays in place because we mostly bomb it on his head, or whether we do that because he isn't even looking to lead, I don't know any more.

There isn't a key forward in the comp that doesn't have down patches or periods during games. Wrestling, having it bombed on their head... It's the same with every single one of them. Charlie is about as good as there is for making the most of his moments and getting involved up the ground when he can.

Not to mention, H and Charles have been rated as the best KPF pairing for bringing the ball to ground and halving contests in the comp over the last few years, so even when they're getting beaten they're still providing opportunities for the team.

The Curnow slander from nuffy Pie men in the media is laughable. As Cornes said last week, the most disrespected player in the game bar none.

The one thing that seems highly hypocritical from football experts and media types is they rave on about all the best small forwards being necessary and questioning are they more valuable than tall forwards, then rant and rave about our defence being under-sized. Make up your minds "experts". As long as the structure and willingness to defend properly as a team is there, size whilst handy isn't the most important thing. I think. Time will tell.

Yep, most goals over the past 3 years by some margin - had the longest streak of kicking a goal every game by some margin (until round 21 last year) but somehow too inconsistent.

Lyon also potted him earlier in the year for not delivering in finals - he has played 3, the Blues won 2 and in won he had 15 possessions, 6 marks and a goal.

They put him on a pedestal only to better see his feet of clay

Spot on!!

The idea that because Charlie has patches in games where he has impact does not mean we as a team will finish out of the 8.

The other players he named were Williams and Gov who he admitted may be more to do with fitness and continuity than effort.

As Jack said on the couch the difference is the weekly improvement from the bottom 6 as long as the top end talent are on the park.

The thing with Charlie particularly is that the oppositions whole defensive focus is on shutting him out, sometimes those plans are effective but Charlie still can take the game away from them in a short space of time.

I'm not sure what's happened here, but the past 2 or 3 weeks feels like Charlie Curnow whipping season.

Would have won 3x Coleman Medals back to back to back yet people saying he's not an A grader, he's a 3 out of 10 player sometimes etc. Just outright slander really.
