I think they’ve been poor for years.
Even during our winning runs, it seems to be something we didn’t do well. But we were good enough anyway, and, confidence means some of it improves.
It's why we could never really put away teams except for a couple of occasions. We'd always let them back in with poor execution.

What makes you think this? Genuinely interested.
Tge look on their faces …during game and after game in particular

Poor performances

That plus feedback on here that some players aren’t happy (from what I consider a reliable source)

Plus H issue

And ducking weaving from the club with injuries etc

You can’t see it what’s happening?

It would be nice if they could announce TDK's new contract to lift the mood.

The last two weeks has been Carlton’s “hold my beer” moment to “Why would TDK not want to play for Carlton?”.

He’s gone.

Tom better be prepared with the scrutiny (pressure) of being the highest paid player in the comp.

Be careful what you wish for. Hopefully player managers are over this when negotiating.
Especially as a ruckman

I personally don’t care if he leaves , one of those players we might look back and thank our lucky starts he left .. ruckman on 1.2/3 mil a year no thanks ,, our second best player but our issue is we have too many around the mil mark … not saying I don’t want to keep him or wouldn’t be happy if he stays but one I’m not gonna lose sleep over

Despite me thinking a few weeks ago it was a snowballs chance in hell of happening it now seems to be the case that he is gone. I feel he would have committed by now. Mind you if he does think its bad at Carlton, if he chooses the Aints wait until he experiences playing under Ross the Boss.

TDK has now had years playing in the same team where Weitering, Cripps, Harry, Charlie have all committed their long term futures to the club with no success. Tom has an opportunity not to add himself to that company. St Kilda doesn’t have to be the club he goes to, they are just the ones offering the most money. If he goes to someone like Geelong, who could blame him?

Surgeons and doctors do take sick leave. Believe it or not, they even take MH leave. I'm not sure what the point of that comparison was.
AFL “professional” vs other professionals.
Self-employed don’t get that luxury.

You have a break from fulfilling your contract then the club shouldn’t bear it in full.

Players should have insurances for that (personally) if they wish to step aside under their own accord but still want full remuneration.

There is some information out there that this may not be accurate.

What is undeniable, however, is that St. Kilda is the club most willing to play the media game.

That's part of the considerations when taking on that sort of venture and is irrelevant to this discussion as AFL players aren't self-employed.

I can take mental health leave tomorrow and it's covered, it's not a "luxury" of AFL players. There are these conditions built into industries across Australia. Perhaps not all, but it's not specific to the AFL. Your specific example earlier of healthcare is one such industry that does support this.

It's irrelevant to discuss really, as these are the working agreements the AFL made with the AFLPA, so the players are well within their rights to do this regardless of how fans view their employment.

i would prefer he stays but seems like a win/win either way? the money st kilda are offering, combined with TDKs talent would ensure a top 3 comp pick, no?

i mean if ben mckay is worth pick 3, TDK is probably worth picks 1, 2, and 3 lmao

Yes. If TDK leaves it will be band one.

Ben McKay was a high compensation pick because North finished near the bottom. If we finish mid table that’s where our compensation will be I think.

What did Hawks get for Buddy? Pick 15 or something crazy.

Or maybe the AFL will deem TDK too old to compensate us like they did with Waite🤬

More than 1 thing can be true about all this.

You can be fragile or vulnerable, but at the same time make a good decision about stepping away when you feel you should, rather then pretending to be something you are not.

It is so frustrating watching him train, see the team play like rubbish, know H is on huge amounts of money etc. but I can't help but feel for him, understand his decision and wish him all the best.
