- 58 % win ratio.

- 7 finals appearances in 10 years – 1 grand final.

- The teacher behind the new breed – Clarkson, Bailey, Hardwick.

- Has operated under a small coaching department budget with average facilities.

- Innovative, left field, disciplinarian.

- My way or the highway approach.

- Not afraid to take on boards, sponsors, AFL, umpires as diplomatic as a sledgehammer.

If the hunger is still there? – My undisputable favourite !

I met him at the footy a few years ago and he is nothing like people say, it was after jack dyer passed away when we played port at telstra dome.
He stood there before the game talking to a young richmond supporter (kid would of been about 5-6) for about 10 minutes about who hes favourite players were, how he thought richmond had the best song in the league ect ect.

Not saying that is a reason for us to chase him but yes he is also my number 1 preference (not because of what i wrote above lol)

- 58 % win ratio.

Mostly on the back of several years as minor premiers in the early noughties as well as 2007.

You may like to take his recent record into consideration. Even if you include 2007, I think he's winning percentage would be below 50%.

- 7 finals appearances in 10 years – 1 grand final.

Port have missed the finals 2 of the last 3 years including a bottom 4 finish last year.

If Port misses out on finals this year, that would make it 3 out of the last 4.

- The teacher behind the new breed – Clarkson, Bailey, Hardwick.

Which begs the question. Was Williams the primary architect of the 2004 flag or was it his assistants? Since those guys have left, Port have all but floundered.

- Has operated under a small coaching department budget with average facilities.

Reportedly draws a salary of $800k a year at Port. That's a pretty hefty sum and wouldn't leave much at the club for facilities.

- Innovative, left field, disciplinarian.

Left field yes. Innovative, perhaps. Disciplinarian? I don't know about that. There's been murmurs of double standards for certain players (his favourites) and others on the outer.

- My way or the highway approach.

- Not afraid to take on boards, sponsors, AFL, umpires as diplomatic as a sledgehammer.

If he gets the flick this year, one of the main reasons could well be his abrasive and controlling personality. I'm not so sure if that's really a good thing.

He's not available - yet.

Truth be told choco should very high on the list for any club looking for a new coach, although I think Adam Thomson may not be too happy if choco becomes coach :p

Out of all the experienced names thrown around (Malthouse, Sheedy, Matthews, Williams), this guy would be my last choice out of those 4.

I don't exactly know why I just don't see him being the right fit for our club at the moment.

Only one premiership from an era where Port dominated the home and away season for several years and the tag of 'chokers' doesn't exactly bode well for him either.

He's far from the worst, but I still think a young coach that hasn't had a senior position before should be tried.

For me it's Buckley v Hardwick v Caretaker and I'm praying that it's Buckley.

Choco is on the radar... and with it Chris Pelchen as Head of the Football Dept could also be a reality with it.

I'd be all for it.

Personally I think we should go younger with Buckley, Hardwick and Hinkley highest on my preferred list.

By far the best choice of experienced coaches (if he becomes available)! Critics here in Adelaide predict that even a top 8 finish may not save his career with the Power. The RFC must consider his credentials and ruthlessness if he becomes available. Hopefully his old mentor Sheedy can pull a few strings in the off season if the selection panel decides to lure the only worthy mature candidate for the vacancy!

Williams and Malthouse would want too much coin.
**** that. I don't want my membership money going towards either of those two guys' retirement funds.
Young, fresh ideas.
