I agree. I also understand and support the notion that a business should do what it can to grow and be strong but this more than a business, it is built on loyalty, support and passion.

The AFL have made supporters pay more for less over the last 10 years and if they continue the next generation will see Footy as just another entertainment like a movie. They won't pay to watch every game or follow a team, they will just take what is available because it will all end up being the same....equalised.

It will lose its soul.

See ya Lindsay.

Spent the night in hospital and Thomas went straight to the tribunal.
Guess that means severe, high and careless and at least 3 matches.

The last player I can think of who got sent straight to the tribunal was Steven May for his bump on Martin last year. I know that that was the AFL compared to this being the VFL, but May got a 5 week suspension for that bump and I could see Thomas getting 4 or 5 weeks for his bump here.

Think something just went our way:

- Geelong midfielder Cameron Guthrie has been cleared of any wrongdoing after pushing umpire Justin Schmitt out of his path in Saturday night's clash against Essendon.

The Panel said Schmitt was "directly in the path of the ball" and Guthrie's contact "was not unreasonable in the circumstances", with no further action taken.

- Melbourne defender Bernie Vince has been offered a $1000 fine for making careless contact with umpire Craig Fleer in Saturday night's clash against Adelaide.

The pair clashed heads, with Fleer leaving the ground and failing a subsequent concussion test.
---

If you look at footage of the two, Vince looks a little hard down by as he had his back to the umpire and as he turned they clashed heads while for Guthrie it was a 2 handed shove in the back. But I'll take it

Now we sit and wait for Hawk to be rubbed out for that little jab on a soft****.

Not that it matters from an MRP perspective, but did anyone get footage of the incident that lead to Hawk getting involved?
I thought that possibly Crouch landed on Sel's head and that got everyone fired up.
I know it doesn't matter, but I'd love to see some of that footage get run in context to the jab.

It's on the AFL site. Lever and Crouch both took a cheap shot.

Hawkins will get rubbed out, nothing surer and Geelong should take it to the highest court in the land and show the Trent Cotchin vision. Absolute basket case the MRP. Welcome to the inconsistencies of the AFL Jimmy Bartel because your name is going to be attached to this as part of the group of muppets.

Didn't they mention they were going to crack down on players acting/staging to draw a free kick as well? That was blatant staging right there, since he knew the umpire was right there and he threw his head back and looked at the umpire with puppy eyes wanting a free.

I'm wondering if they are trying to work out how to make it a 3 week suspension - our next game is the Eagles (DS), Free (SS) and then GWS (Spotless); I'm quite sure they'd love Hawkins to not be available for the GWS game also

And then caused a melee because hes teammates thought he was seriously hurt.

Just got to rewatch it on the replay (thanks for the good timing Foxtel).

Both Hawkins & Duncan ran in very quickly when Selwood got the free kick for the high tackle. It looked like Lever came in a little late, just slight after the whistle had already blown for the free kick but then Lever helped take Selwood to ground - that on it's own I don't think was what caused our guys to come running it. They only showed the one angle of the incident, but it looked like Lever may have put his elbow in the side of Selwood's head while on the ground - checking how good the stapling job on his head was sort of thing). I think our guys had a good view of what happened to Selwood on the ground and they really didn't like what they saw.

The other interesting thing that came out of it was the half time confrontation was watching Walker getting up in Hawkins face, pointing his finger in a threatening manner and that was then followed up by Lever doing the same.

I know that players will always try to impose themselves, but as the captain aren't you meant to leave that to the other players rather than being the instigator because it's not exactly a great look from the captain.

Well I agree that we need to stamp any sort of punch out of the game so unfortunately I believe he SHOULD get a week. He loves the jumper-punch and it's bloody dumb. Obviously if he gets a week it's beyond parody with regards to consistency but I'm over blokes thinking it's okay to hit another guy as long as they have a bit of fabric in their hands. Tom should be smarter after last year's suspension.

Serious acting on display from the Crows idiot. Put him up there with Phil Davis for needlessly playing it up for a free kick.

Not sure why players insist on pushing and shoving when their first instinct is to act up like this when they get pushed back. Embarrassing.

Little jab? Would have put me on my arse.
The sling shot action of pulling the player forward and jabbing does have power.

He should get a week for pure stupidity. And you could tell he knew it immediately.

This board is seriously demented

1. Selwood was targeted with blows to the head, which is protected. There was no 50 or action taken and nor will there be from head high contact which was targeted.
if you want no one to support the captain when dealt with in such a manner then its a joke
hawkins deserves a week on the basis that lever deserves 2

2. The AFL cant keep making Hawkins as the example when both his blows (this year and last year) when soft and followed up with players acting, when players like Cotchin get off
- the AFL needs to get real, and shades of grey deserve to be in a novel not in the MRP

ITs hard to throw a punch when your hand is full of another blokes jumper.

With his hand full of jumper, he pulls his arm back and then pushes away from himself, extending his arm.

Its more of a grappling act and movement than a jumper punch.

Look at what Zac Jones did. Fine
Look at what Geary? did to Bont. Fine.

The fact Hawk got done for Davis was laughable but this is even less than that.

The AFL spotlight wont help but it wont be an balanced decision if he gets done.

Which I fully expect he will for the usual reasons.

Agree Daz. Hawk's will be more clearer once they define the action. Is is a push or a punch?
Where as Jones last week clearly threw a punch and despite the media attention just received a fine due to the lack of force.

Yup - and its hard to argue the intent to throw a punch when the motion is just a clear a push as it could be punch.

If the intent was to punch then the jumper would have been released and he'd have punched him. But the vision shows a push. Intent to punch cannot be established there.

Hawkins will be made an example of again whilst everyone else around him gets off scott free.

I'm not even sure Hawkins made contact with the face of Crouch, It was eerily similar to the Davis incident where he received 2 weeks and where contact was more to the neck.

Alas, Hawkins should know better.

A thorough investigation into the MRP needs to take place if yet another Geelong player gets rubbed out for a minor indiscretion. Let's see what becomes of it first before we go down the appeals process.
