Has anyone been to The Lenzerheide? I have heard about its exclusivity and have recently moved near there.

Want to try it more out of curiosity than anything...

Exclusivity

You can't be talking about the Lenzerheide Restaurant on Belair Road at Hawthorn then. I have been to that once a few years back with some friends who always raved about it. Nothing special at all and I would definitely not go back. I get the impression that it is one of those restaurants that has built up a loyal following by serving the same dishes for 20 years.

I tried the roschti which is supposed to be one of their signature disshes but I didn't find it anything special.

Nah havent been there. Been to the 'sister' restaurant Alphutte quite a few times though and always enjoyed it. Lenzerheide is meant to be similar.

I have never been there, but everyone does rave about it eh? Apparently also wins awards, but is ultra expensive and hard to book a table.

Well there we go. You might have just saved me a couple of hundred bucks!

Disregard his review.

I recommend the Bunkum du jour followed by a main course of Claptrap tartare.

hahah!

You know, I actually read that 3 times and was on the verge of googling Bunkum du jour to find out what it was.

and btw, I will be using bunkum at every opportunity now. I reckon with time it will become the new version of BigFooty's "vitriol" - a word that previously no one used or understood but having seen it on BigFooty now use it excessively.

In my experience the people that rave about it have rather plain (unadventurous) tastes. It is expensive for what you get but you do have to book well in advance because they have a regular clientele that eat there on an almost weekly basis. For my money if you are going to spend that kind of money on dinning in Adelaide their are much better places to try.

I thought the Alphutte, as Macca said owned by the same people, was much better but they only do Saturday dinner by arrangement for large groups.

Keep em coming! more than interested in good quality restaurants.

La Tombola is a good one. The service is perfect, food is very, very good but lacks the uniqueness of some of the finer restaurants. The type of place you know that you will get a very enjoyable meal but it will never blow you away.

Raj on Taj
on King William is good if Indian is your thing (my favourite food) - great breads. Snake Charmers have a better Vindaloo though.

How odd.

Another good Italian is Assaggio Ristorante on King William Road, Hyde Park.

For Indian you can't go past the Jasmine in Hindmarsh Square. The Snake Charmer is good too as is the Tandoori Oven (run by the same family as the Jasmine).

i would tell everyone where i work - italian resteraunt - family owned - very good food

but then maybe some pedos would come and assult me.

Auge was mentioned earlier in this thread. It's probably aimed at a similar demographic and is much superior in my opinion.

First place I ever worked in Adelaide (part-time uni job), 1983. Worked in a good number of Adelaides eateries and bars over the years.

I worked at sizzler for 6 years, i still make sizzler bread to bring back the memories

Love cooking, love eating and there are so many good restaurants in Adelaide that are reasonably priced for their value, that we are spoilt.

Some of the best I've been to, at the upper end of the scale, include Auge, the Manse, Chloes, Alphutte and Cheongs special nights at the Hilton. These are usually special occasion nights for us though and definitely rip into the bank balance as I can't help but order a wine (or two) that will due the food justice.

Snake Charmer is a favourite as is T Chow for Chinese, the Vietnam for ... what else, and Enzos.

Lucky here on the Peninsula to have a couple of new additions the the restaurant scene in the past few years.

The Phore Seasons is a great Italian place on Semmy Road which won a national award recently. Gio and Judy are great hosts and Gio chooses all his wines from the wineries themselves, which is a bit of a passion of his. An excellent list.

In the Port is the Spice and Ice, an Indian restaurant which does both traditional and adventurous dishes, including some tandoori beauties. Namit, the owner and head chef, is also a beer and wine fanatic, so has 33 beers available (last count), 1 of which is Australian I believe, and a wine list that will want you to get home and start googling so you can find some info on them.

Personally I am big on cooking Middle Eastern dishes at the moment (Armenian, Yemeni, etc). Not many such restaurants in Adelaide compared to the other capital cites, but the Rainbow Hilal butcher on South Road is tops (and cheap) for the cuts I require.

My favourite is Chianti Classico on Hutt St. Love the ambience of the place, love the pasta and love the wine list.

On the upper side, I like Auge, Magill Estate, the Grange, Bridgewater Mill, Shiki.

Places down Glenelg I usually go to a lot are Europa, Lungomare, Sammys, The Strand.

I love eating at wineries as well. Skillogalee, D'arenberg, Pennys Hill, Hollick, Tapestry are places ive had great food, either as proper meals or tapas type stuff.

Love goin down chinatown as well. Jia Zhen (think theyve changd their name now) is one of the best value joints around. Ty Chow, BBQ City, Mapo, Ying Chow, Matsuri....and of course, the seafood joints down Gouger are good value as well.

^hahaha i lol'ed

^i would lick the mud from an elephant's foot if you could please tell me how you make this, as well as those crispy potato entrees they used to serve.

i miss sizzler and want nostalgia please

Agree, missed that on my list of good Indian earlier.

Bridgewater Mill is a favourite of mine also and probably my wife's favourite. Last time we went to the Grange it was over $500 for the two of us. Great food and wines but not something I would do too often. Haven't been to Magill Estate for probably 5 years and was a bit disappointed last time we went. I believe there have been some changes since then though. Haven't tried Shiki at the Hyatt yet as there are a number of much cheaper very good Japanese restaurants in town but it is certainly on my "to do" list.

Yum cha at Ding Hao in Gouger Street on a Sunday morning is great. Need to book well in advance if you want to be guaranteed a table.

Wasai (the old Genki) in Field Street behind Gaucho's is as good, if not better than Matsuri IMHO. Since Tsuyoshi (the chef) and his partner took the place over it has really lifted its game.

If you want Japanese at the Bay Yakumi is good and for just sushi Simply Sushi is a good kaiten zushi. Both are in Jetty Street.

For yakitori you can't do much better than Yakitori Takumi (formerly Yakitori Daikichi) in Melbourne Street at North Adelaide.

Kenji in Hutt Street is "modern Japanese" an is also excellent. They have a good range of sake and shochu as well. ;)

I miss Sizzler too but my waist line doesn't :o

Sushi isn't food. The texture, the smell, the taste. Vile stuff. How did they even think to wrap seaweed over some raw fish and think - yeah! that'll be good!

and I think everyone misses Sizzler. One of those rare things that was such good value it went out of business.

Wasn't the bread just parmeson cheese spread and then fried with some olive oil?

Im 50/50 with Sushi. Dont hate it, dont love it. Wouldnt go out of my way to eat it. Sashimi i really enjoy however.

There is a lot more to sushi than seaweed and raw fish. One of my favourites is grilled eel sushi, no seaweed or raw fish in sight (although often there is a very small band of nori around it)

When you eat sashimi do you ever have it on a bed of rice?

I think sushi is great.

I don't think sashimi is as good, but I still eat it.

Sizzler closed down whilst I was still in primary school so I'm not too sure what happened there. Could someone please explain to me what occurred? Did it have anything to do with health inspections? I've heard that they still operate interstate.

I belive Sizzler is still going strong throughout Queensland.

From memory it wasnt a health related but more not profitable related. Could be wrong though.

It closed down when I was in Year 7 or 8 i reckon. Used to go there once every school holidays for for a few years. Couldnt beat those potato skins.

I'm the opposite. Like both but love sashimi, especially with the oilier fish such as tuna or Atlantic Salmon. Will definitely be a part of my Xmas fare with lashings of wasabi.
