one of if not the best movie i have ever seen
i dont get how it ties in with the other movies though
is it a prequel?
like star wars?
It's not at all related to the other Batman films, except Batman Begins. It's the sequel to that.

Very good movie, maybe not the masterpiece as people are calling it, but i would watch it again, and probably will buy it when it is released on DVD

These new batman movies are much better then whatever the hell was being served to us before, Jim Carey ruined the batman franchise. this new one is Much better.

was half an hour too long

I wanted more :D... will see how it stacks up at a few more cinema viewings and on dvd. Superman Returns is another long movie, i loved it when i saw it at the cinema multiple times and then on dvd.... but months later the length of the film made me NOT want to watch it (whereas i could watch Superman or Superman II many times over a year).

If i had to pick gripes about the film it would be along the lines of:

A lot of people and reviewers have said it didn't resemble a superhero movie. Fair call and i'd agree with most of it, except the final act reverted back to being just another superhero v villain confrontation.

There are other things but i'll return with a spoiler text rant so i don't mull over plot points that spoil the movie for those that may not see it until this weekend or later on.

Even with the gripes i have with the movie i still thought it kicked some serious ass, everyone was fantastic in it, Although i didn't think much of Maggie Gyllenhaal as a replacement Rachel..... i didn't think much of Katie Holmes in Batman Begins, but it's not a 'hate for the actor' - i just didn't like the Rachel character.

I didn't hate Maggie Gylenhaal but I would have loved Rachel Macadams playing the Rachel role.
Also I never saw that Body bag scene with the Joker. They must have cut it out, I recall Nolan saying in an interview, that it was a vital part of the movie .

Did you take a toilet break during the movie ? :p

Essentially
99% certain it occured not long after one of the crime bosses wanted The Joker to be taken out (dead or alive). A gang of african american's bring in a body bag saying they had done it..... but he magically pops out and pwns the person who wanted him dead.

LOL i did have a toilet break, and came back in when he snapped the pool que in half and tossed it on the floor. was it before that part.

Yes, merely a minute or two before that bit - it was that very scene.

And on the subject of toilet breaks.... i could have done with one, but i was too glued to the seat and didn't want to move, i stayed until the end of the credits, then bolted to the toilet (i'm one of those people who likes to hear the end credit music as i'm a movie music/sound score nut - i'll be buying the soundtrack when i get a chance!).

Great film.

Heath Ledger was amazing

It will be interesting to see who the villans will be in the next Batman. Highlight to reveal ->

Obvioulsy the Joker didn't die so I guess they will bring a new actor in to take that role, and I'm not sure if two face died (but I'm guessing not.)

I would like to see them bring in a couple of old favs like Penguin and Catwomen but avoid shockers like the Riddler, Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze. It will be interesting if they try and bring Robin in aswell. A younger, darker, more vengful flawed Robin would blend in pretty well I reckon.

The Riddler could be done well. As could Mr Freeze.

Chris Nolan and Christian Bale both despise Robin and want nothing to do with him. Bale's said he'll chain himself up and refuse to work if they introduce Robin.

one of the greatest films ive ever seen. none of that bullcrap america is awesome everyone lives happily ever after type. a cold and dark tone which made it awesome.

looking back to ledgers career i wasnt much of a big fan of his movies. however he'll never be forgotten for this. i have never seen anyone become like a character. in otherwords i felt heath became the joker to the point that he was a real life person terroising society.

bale as batman is just awe inspiring. half of the movie i was gobsmacked by the performances of most of the actors.

fav scenes is the pencil scene, the hospital scene and the interrogation. still in awe.

ok so they have just begun another series of movies sorta thing?

It's called a "reboot". The comic book medium has been doing it for ages. Basically involves starting again and adapting beloved old characters into a less dated milieu.

If I hear a cynic suggesting that his performance is over-rated because of his death I will flip my ****ing lid.

I've heard a couple of people go down this path, but they need to be reminded that there was plenty of awesome buzz about this performance well before Ledger died.

A certain Chasers song springs to mind. Heath Ledger could of appeared in a scat film and it still would of been seen as a classic

While it was a good performance it wasnt exactly worth the hype. I mean he did have a pretty easy role to play and didnt do anything mind blowing. If he gets a award for it itll be a bit of a joke I think

Bulls**t! No I'm no Heath Ledger fan club member, but he and Bale were immense. Eckhart ditto.

From various articles on it ...

"Prior to the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, David Goyer ruled out using the Penguin or Catwoman as a villain in a future film, preferring to use antagonists from the comic that had not yet been portrayed on the big screen."

I think they're more likely to do someone like Clayface or Harley Quinn than either of them.

Loved it though thought the Two Face arc was too rushed. Still, I loved the way it all ended, did not expect it to conclude with Batman on the run. Thought the performances were excellent all round and was a fantastic movie. Will definitely see it again

Am I right in thinking this was another Zimmer soundtrack. That guy is money :thumbsu:

The reason Ledger's performance is getting such massive wraps, is that if you didn't know it was Heath Ledger playing the role, you'd struggle to pick it straight away.

All the mannerisms, the voice, the laughter, the mood swings, the licking of the lips - being motivated by nothing by a desire to cause chaos and anarchy.

He nailed it.

Eckhart was almost as good - but the character doesn't give the same scope for a massive performance.
