Okay, we all know that people hate ovals. It's obvious that the concept on a sports field just doesn't work. For starters it's impossible to make the curvature absolutely accurate. Even if you think it's a genuine oval shape, it can never genuinely be accurate, because human error comes into play.
I suggest the Decagon.
It will mean, if a player is lining up on the boundary line for a shot at goal, then then everyone in the stadium will know that the angle he is at will be 144 degrees, because every intenal angle is at 144 degrees.
In the increasing statistical driven time, this sort of certainty for fans and commenators would be a godsend.
It also means, just as importantly a standard shape with exact lengths for every AFL ground. With 10 sides of equal length, and each length being 40 meters, it will create a wonderfully standardized shape that no other sport uses.
UFC jumped ahead of everyone by using the Octagon, and that sport has really taken off. Now we know why. We can out-do them. Ten is 2 more than eight.
The Decagon would essentially become the symbol of Australian Football. No other sport would have the shape of their ground composed with as many sides. We would have the most.
And let's face it... it just looks better. I always had a fascination with Decagons when I was younger.
