The fact remains that Foley was picked in the 2018 AFL Draft several picks before Valente who was over looked by the both Adelaide clubs on multiple occasions.
Fremantle jumped on Valente like a dog finding a discarded lolly at a family picnic.

"Several picks before" well it was one pick before, if you are going to nit pick everything else at least get that right. The fact also remains that Foley had no interest in his draft year, another fact remains lachie neale was passed on by both adelaide clubs and he is a gun. Another fact remains Eagles (A WA club) passed on Patrick Cripps (A WA player) who was taken only a couple of picks later by a Victorian club, therefore he must be a spud

Most of us wanted Valente; I know I did. I can see why we would want a player of Foley’s type, and a Western Australian to boot - but I’d be really surprised if Valente was anything other than a long-term, reliable AFL midfielder.

Foley's ceiling seems so much higher than Valente's. The club clearly agrees with this opinion.

For the record I'm not arguing that Valente will be the better player in the future, it genuinely seems like splitting hairs and will be interesting to see how it unfolds, but the theory that Valente must be a bad player because SA clubs passed or because he slid is just delusional

Not sure where I said that. But it's not really the same as wasting high picks on say Apeness or Logue for example

Im not sure what you think I'm arguing, but thats literally my point, just because someone is a high pick does not mean they are going to be better than someone picked at a lower pick, it's a ridiculous logic

I'm not sure what you're arguing really, but good luck with Valente, I'm sure he'll make a fantastic addition to Peels next premiership push.

Like i have said in my other posts. Foley will be an excellent wingman ie. a larger version of Masten, if all goes to plan.
I can see Valente becoming a failure at freo.
Neale may have been a average inside mid, but at least he had his running capacity to set himself apart

For whatever reason we (and other clubs) preferred other clubs players over Valente. In our case it may well have been that Foley suited our game style and needs more than Valente did not because we didn’t rate him

At the end of the day we selected O’neill and Foley ahead of the more highly touted valente and it’ll be our recruiters with egg on their face if our two picks are busts

Hopefully our two boys become stars and valente has two good years before asking to be traded to the crows

I didn't realise this until recently, but David Gourdis used to date Jess Murphy (nee Haberman).

Ipso facto his career was an overwhelming success irrespective of actual games played.

Definitely rate Valente higher, was gutted when we passed on him. Only issue now is their future development at club level, you'd have to say were doing that better at this stage!

Based on your decline post making the grand final, I know last year you ranked highest for games into first yearers but that was based mostly on Brayshaw and Cerra (high picks) who are very talented already. Post the GF it doesn't look like many young guys have really come through, you might name a few but for the most part they haven't. Not to say they won't, they just haven't yet.

I live in Saints heartland and they hate Ross, as he didn't develop any youth whilst there. Seems like only now that he's trying to.

It's heartening to know that even if any other Foley v Valente threads get started, this is the Definitive One. That means a great deal to me.
