I think the AFL and most people in general have the wrong approach to diving/staging. You see it in soccer all the time. Players are yellow carded if the referee thinks they dived, but if they are fouled and feign immediate death before suddenly making a miraculous recovery then nothing happens. If players were retrospectively awarded yellow cards for histrionics it would make a huge difference.

Feigning contact is only a part of the problem. If Schofield is found to have hit Oliver and either given a warning, suspension, no punishment etc. depending on how they grade it then Oliver should still be cited for his over the top reaction. Everyone other than Cudi_420 knows he was fine. His reaction was a disgrace considering what the two captains showed after forceful hits.

A lot of chirp coming out of the Dees at the minute. Good on them for showing a bit of spirit but footy has a funny way of biting you in the arse.

Aside from Olivers tweet I see no issues with what we've been doing. Seen some posters call us the faux tough guys but that isn't true, we ARE (Oliver and Hogans staging aside) a tough team.

I still find it laughable anyone from the West has the cheek to have a go at anyone for diving, talk about glass houses.

Not as bad as Port fans sooking about umpiring against their favour. They're basically spooners in terms of moral victories.

If you look at our board you'll see most people call Darling a disgrace for his acting and are happy to see Shuey attack the football instead of always ducking.

Haha Clayton Oliver changed his twitter pic to this

Haha, what a sooky carnt.

It's hard to see the MRP doing anything to Oliver after doing nothing to Rance last week. So as disgraceful as diving and flopping is to most supporters, it seems like it is condoned by AFL house.

Getting harder to look down on other sports for not being as "tough" as AFL these days

is it just me or does clayton oliver look like Syndrome from the incredibles

th

Yeah, the bloke with a test average of 46, dual world cup winner and wisden cricketer of the year really got schooled there.....

Who's Oliver going to have a go at next, Ricky Ponting? Kieren Perkins? Maybe he can diversify and show up Anna Meares.
I'd love him to have a go at Nick Kyrgios.

A tweet off between him and Kyrgios would be fantastic.

For Clayton Oliver. In case he can't remember.

Because he wasn't even born when Marto debuted for Australia and was 9 when he retired.

Why do I get the feeling that Oliver just googled Damien Martin and tried to find something he could poke fun at?

DM was a great player, that showed heart and skill over a very long career ... and here is CO having a crack at him after about 5 minutes in the AFL limelight. Ordinary effort.

There's always been a bit a staging to some degree, always will be. The bit I don't like with the Oliver effort is actually what he did after and continues to do now, it shows his lack of character.
The stage is as clear as day. He even takes a split second to think about whether to go down or not. Never been a fan of stagers like that but that's his call.
The bit I don't like is the after math. Where the campaigner then gets up after all the boys have come in for him and at one stage puts on all the faux tough guy rage and goes back in towards Schofield mouthing off like he's going to kill him for knocking him out whilst hiding behind his mates. Lets face it if he really wanted to get to him he could have, he just has absolutely no character. That is the ultimate definition of low life campaigner with no real heart.
What guys like this need is a genuine on the ball shirt front to remind them what happens to diving campaigners who take it to that level. A level that caused a melee and dragged entire teams in for absolutely nothing. That needs to be taught a lesson!!
I've seen guys do this and then realise the over reaction and go in and calm it down, not this individual. He has no character and his actions speak for themselves. In the old days he'd get sorted out for the weak character that he is.

I don't think that means we can't comment. Every club has/has had its share of divers. Wasn't it one of your blokes who openly admitted to diving some years ago?

Darling's playing for frees annoys me so much more than Oliver's antics, because if Jack stopped throwing his back or going to ground, he would probably kick more goals. Ironically enough, he'd probably also get more frees.

Blah blah blah.

You know what shows less character? Attacking a 19 year old for "weak character".

Did he ham it up? Maybe. Maybe not. Did he try to puff his chest out afterwards? Sure. He's a 19 year old with 25 games under his belt trying to find his feet and fronting up to a player almost ten years his senior whose just elbowed him in the face.

Extra points for the "staging will happen" intro. Certainly gives the Eagles players that have been doing it for years a free pass.

Surprised Oliver can tweet with the broken hand he received from Shuey not kicking him.
Perhaps he's just as hard as nails like you are you big old keyboard warrior!
FWIW Jack Darling fakes it every time someone touches him, is 6 years older and 3 times the size.
There is not a softer footballer going around

Club would want to reign this stuff in you would think. Four in a row is a great sign of where they are heading but wouldn’t want this stuff detracting. Reminder about his responsibility in representing the club. Poor by Martyn to essentially have a free hit at him but sad that Oliver doesn’t have the humility to ignore it. Just a life lesson for a young guy, I doubt we will see it from him again but mud may stick. If he has a good game on Friday things will just move on if he doesn’t then media will take care of that giving him a few more whacks.
